Ah, Star Wars. Only two words and yet upon hearing them, so many thoughts and memories spring to mind. Ah, Star Wars. Only two words and yet upon hearing them, so many thoughts and memories spring to mind. Quite simply one of the best film franchises of all time, it’s always found ways to entertain fans when there weren’t any films coming out. We’ve had video games, short films, merchandising and TV shows. With another film on the way, there comes another TV show too, heading to Disney Channel: Rebels. By Helen Langdon When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, there was probably not as much wailing as you might think. After all, nothing could be worse than Phantom Menace (don’t let us down, JJ!) and the House of Mouse have shown they’re pretty good at staying hands-off with their newly acquired properties, as seen with Marvel. But there’s one more glorious consequence of the merger, before we get the new animated series Star Wars: Rebels and Star Wars Episode VII (The one with Han’s broken ankle). The Phineas and Ferb Star Wars crossover episode has just been given the American airdate of July 26th. by Cookie N Screen Star Wars is unforgettable. Those geeks truly affected by the film series have held onto that torch like a flickering light saber beacon. So much so that when these fellow nerds go into filmmaking and art themselves, they choose to uphold their love by parodying it in their show. After all, the quotes and the quips from the legendary series make up 99% of our pop culture. Here are some of the best ones. by Hayley Charlesworth Star Wars: Rebels is the latest animated addition to the Star Wars franchise, to begin airing on Disney XD in Autumn 2014. It is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and is the first entry to the new Star Wars canon. But what else do we know? by Melissa Haggar The highly anticipated Star Wars themed episode of The Big Bang Theory has arrived, and it’s an agreeable mix of sombre events and light-hearted humour, which balance out the episode, not making it too dark or heavy. Assisting in the episode creation is LucasFilms, and as expected, the Star Wars-related puns are out in full force, and there are a couple of great ones involving food from Howard and Raj; and continuing the food theme is Bernadette and Amy, who concoct a Star Wars ‘Death Star’ cake. By Helen Langdon When the Star Wars prequel trilogy came out in cinemas, there was one event glaringly omitted from the story. The Clone Wars, brought into action by the events of Episode II, with its end battles portrayed in Episode III, have been part of the Star Wars mythos since the very beginning. After all, the Clone Wars instigated the creation of the Empire, and Anakin’s transformation into Darth Vader. Luckily for fans, Lucasfilm adapted the story of the Clone Wars into two separate animated series. by Daniel Franco For many of us Star Wars fans, the day Disney took over Lucasfilm was a bit of a bittersweet feeling. The joy of knowing that more films would come, particularly the long awaited Third Trilogy (Episodes VII, VIII and IX) was, in a way, blurred by some cancelations like the videogame Star Wars 1313 or the emerging TV show Star Wars Detours and the award winning success Star Wars: The Clone Wars. |
