The 1970s produced the best comedies. It’s just a fact. That might just be down to sheer output – make so many sitcoms in a decade, some of them are going to turn out to be classics still getting repeated 40 years later. And the intros are just as iconic.

The 1970s produced the best comedies. It’s just a fact. That might just be down to sheer output – make so many sitcoms in a decade, some of them are going to turn out to be classics still getting repeated 40 years later. And the intros are just as iconic. by William John The 12th Doctor's second story kicks off tomorrow evening, with a harrowing journey to somewhere darker than he's ever been before... "In a faraway galaxy, the Doctor encounters his greatest foes once again. But, as the Daleks close in on a ragtag group of survivors, has the Doctor found the key to defeating his enemies once and for all?" Check out the trailers, preview clips and promo images below and watch Doctor Who: Into the Dalek at 19:30 on BBC1! by Cookie N Screen Two things have really irked me whilst writing this final (nooooooo!) review on Orange Is The New Black. One of them has to do with the empty handed cast and crew leaving this year’s Emmys. How the governing body behind the awards failed to adorn the incredible Netflix original series with anything last night is as perplexing as their choice to slam it into the comedy category. Even THEN Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes) and Kate Mulgrew should have at least beaten Julia Louise-Dreyfuss and Allison Janney despite myself respectively loving the latter pairing. The second is that this is it, no more Orange Is The New Black until summer 2015 and I don’t think it is rightly fair to bless us with an intensely superb television series, then snatch it away from us. by Matthew Howe One of the best things about working in the film business is the food. One of the worst things about working in the film business is also the food. It all depends what end of the biz you’re in. The rules are simple, a crew must be fed six hours from the time they arrive. Then six hours after that first meal, another is due. On union jobs, if you’re not fed in time you get a “meal penalty.” That is they pay you extra for every fifteen minutes a meal break is delayed. Score two hours of meal penalties and you’ll make more than your day rate, which is why union guys pray they won’t break on time. by Cookie N Screen Another night came to an end on Sunday night as the glittering Emmy’s took precedence, sparking off a glorious celebration of all things popular on the television. Many mouths have uttered that this is the golden age of television, and quite rightly so, when you see the nominations from 2014’s Emmy awards you will brim with delight that you wasted so many hours dedicated to this shows. From the likes of Sherlock, Breaking Bad and Orange Is The New Black, the tension between the networks and hosting sites like Netflix and the glamourous stars all make this one of the best award ceremonies of the year. So let’s see who scooped up a gong at the Emmys 2014. by Leah Stone Loosely based on the Arthurian legends of Merlin and King Arthur (think Lancelot, knights of the round table, that sort of thing), Merlin ran from September 2008 until December 2012 and quickly became one of the most popular shows in the UK. However, in typical fashion, the BBC broke everyone’s hearts by ending the show and getting rid of any ability to pick the show back up again at a later date. How can we tell? It ended with Merlin in the modern era wandering along a road searching for the next King Arthur. But what exactly made it so popular? by William John He’s here! He’s finally here! After a year of anticipation, excitement and extreme curiosity, Peter Capaldi’s first steps as the 12th Doctor are finally here… and boy, was he something different! Dazed, confused and coughed up by a dinosaur, Deep Breath saw the 12th Doctor reunited with the Paternoster Gang in Victorian London. Unsure of his new persona, he’s flung, headlong, into a mysterious case involving spontaneous human combustion and a creepy man with half a face. Darker, more sinister but still as fun as ever, this was Doctor Who as it should be! With not long to go before the Twelfth Doctor makes his first proper appearance (literally minutes), it's time to announce the winner of our Doctor Who Companion Faceoff. Although some other rounds were very hard-fought, in a few cases being decided by a single vote, it's safe to say that the eventual winner was a bit of a landslide. Here on I'm With Geek, our ultimate Doctor Who companion is... by Cookie N Screen It’s really hard to come into a role as a character much beloved by fans everywhere. It’s safe to say that fans of Doctor Who have been scrutinizing casting choices ever since the dawn of time. But fear not, because one favourite has scarily bounded to our screens with his scrutinising eyebrows and now takes the guise of the Doctor. That’s right, we are merely minutes away from seeing Peter Capaldi at the helm of the TARDIS and we are terribly excited, especially learning that it is going to take a darker tone, there will be no flirting and it’s bleeding Peter Capaldi! But where did this elusive man come from? Honourable Mention: Peter Capaldi is on the verge of breaking Hollywood and no doubt will after his stint in the series, but he has played some incredible side characters in recent times. But for added effect, check out his Oscar-winning short as he directs and writes Franz Kafka’s It’s A Wonderful Life. It's genius. by William John Fun, enigmatic, an ancient man trapped in a young body, the 11th Doctor was, for me, the epitome of what the Doctor should be. The perfect balance of charm and humanity whilst remaining undeniably alien, Matt Smith’s performance as our favourite Timelord was exciting, haunting and, most of all, amazing! Stepping into the fold over arguably the most popular Doctor ever, it’s surprising to think, looking back, that so many people had such little faith in the youngest ever actor to play the Doctor, and I’m not afraid to say I was one of them… Until his first scene, that is - |
