Orange Is The New Black - SE2E1

Netflix have truly hit their stride with original television series. So they may have gone wayward with the dismal Hemlock Grove but they have struck gold, or well, orange with this show. Orange Is The New Black has accumulated a diverse and vibrant audience, hitting every target with every episode (a rarity for any series.) Showcasing behind the bars of a women’s correctional facility and based on true to life memoirs of Piper Kerman sentenced to a year due to trafficking drug money for her then girlfriend (who is in the same prison.)

And it all begins with one of the best title sequences of all time.

The first teaser trailer for Teen Wolf Season Four has landed, and what it lacks in details over what’s to come in the next season, it more than makes up for in symbolism and this show’s famed use of slow-motion.

You Should Be Watching: Orange Is The New Black

At the end of last year, I had a bout of sickness that could only be cured by excessive amounts of Netflix and feeling sorry for myself. The problem with being ill is that nothing seems appealing apart from gallons of Mean Girls and Moulin Rouge! It’s like a mother’s embrace or chicken soup, these movies soothe you into their bosom. My sickness was conflicting with something else, my urge to find something new and feel satisfied with the outcome. And then, in the haze of dizziness come a television show so brilliant that not only did I watch one episode, I watched the whole damn series. That series, was Orange Is The New Black.

This week, the episode begins with a very short but very funny and much needed road trip promised at the end of the last episode. Helena and Sarah are off to Cold River, but along the way we get to see what they could have been – sisters. We see them bond, annoy each other – well Helena annoys Sarah – but Sarah can’t stay mad at her for long. It’s, to be honest, lovely. Sarah has needed to see Helena as more than just the killer of last season, and Helena needs to see that someone can be on her side.

Hannibal - "Mizumono" (Spoilers!)

There will always be a lot of contention hit back at the season finale of any television show. Hannibal, it seems, is no different. Entering into season two thirteen weeks back and it was clear from the onset we were playing with a different ballgame than the first series. In some aspects, the show was a scarier and more thrilling beast, powering through the motions and the twists like an animal. However, episodes falter and storylines were picked up only to be dropped again. The final episode had a lot of murky waters to navigate in order for it to land, setting up an incredible season three. Did it succeed? In many ways, yes it did. And yes, this review is riddled with SPOILERS.

Robots often get the short end of the stick when it comes to sci-fi universes. After all, they don’t have to sleep, or eat, or breathe, and so they get all of the crappy jobs. There’s no kind of union to whom they can complain about their lot in life. There don’t tend to be robot psychiatrists to hear their woes. Most of the time, the humans around them seem to view them purely as a convenience, rather than a functioning human being in their own right. It’s not just Marvin the Paranoid Android who has it bad. Here’s the most desperately unhappy robots (and AIs) on TV.

It’s National Towel Day today!

In order to celebrate this most glorious of days, we here at I’m With Geek decided that we would honour the humble towel in all of its glory. We debated long and hard over how to achieve such a feat, before deciding on how useful a towel would be, were you to travel to a TV series. In order to maintain posterity, we chose to award the Towel Oriented Workload Efficiency Level to a variety of TV universes, breaching the realms of science fiction, fantasy, and even the mundane. The scoring system was out of ten, depending how useful using your towel would be in a situation, with One being “no use whatsoever” and Ten being “handy camouflage should the Bugblatter Beast of Traal turn up.”

With that out the way, let’s get started!

Discworld: Where's The Watch TV Series?

There have been a few attempts at transporting Discworld to the screen, from Cosgrove Hall’s animated adaptations of Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters, to the more recent Sky productions of Hogfather, The Colour of Magic and Going Postal. But beyond the brief glimpses we get of such characters as Angua, Nobby Nobbs and Visit-The-Infidel-With-Explanatory-Pamphlets, the Watch novels have yet to reach our television sets. Why?
