Sherlock Week: Elementary, my dear Watson

When I first heard about Elementary, CBS' own modern day Sherlock Holmes crime drama, I was, to say the least, rather uninterested. Great, they're jumping on the band wagon and doing their own version... who cares? Then Lucy Liu was cast as JOAN Watson and my disinterest turned to disgust - How dare they cast Watson as a woman?! Despite my best interests, I sat down and watched the pilot whilst in America.

Oh how wrong I was!

So, series two is starting to take form, with the second episode just as good as the first. I needn't bore you with the trivial talk of how much the series has improved, or how much was riding on this episode being as good as the last, because you all know that as well. Needless to say, you can all take comfort in the fact that you won't be disappointed with this episode.

I remember sitting in maths lessons and thinking that Pythagoras was the trickiest equation I would ever have to see, until I saw this episode, where the problem is whole lot deadlier. Sherlock and Watson are on the case to solve the mystery of two dead mathematicians on the brink of solving one of the greatest math's problems: P vs. NP. Sounds very straightforward, but this episode is far from straightforward.

With Elementary beginning its second series, you would hope that it would continue as the first series ended. Not necessarily with the same storyline, but the same style and wit that the first series brought to our screens. I feel honoured to say that Elementary has opened the series with a bang!

Elementary (My Dear Watson) You Need to be Watching This

So over the pond in America, a little known channel named CBS is broadcasting a popular crime drama about an incredibly smart detective who is solving crimes with his ex-surgeon assistant and the NYPD. Sounds like any other cop show right? WRONG! This is the amazing series of "Elementary" based on the characters Sherlock Holmes and Joan (yeah you saw that right) Watson.

I say based, some of the deeper storylines do revolve around some of the elements of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original books, but mostly the story differs. For example, and this is a pretty obvious point, it is not set in London. Many fans I know don't like the series simply because it strays away from the original location. It would be like Harry Potter being set in America instead of in England. That would definitely not work, however, Sherlock Holmes in America seems to work.
