TV Programmes That Scared Us Shitless!

10/31/2013

By I'm With Geek Writers

Tonight is All Hallow's Eve, where the dead... take the night off, because it's hard to go around scaring when everyone's dressed up as a zombie or demon. At least, according to our resident Slayer.

Tonight is also the night for the writers to tell horror stories about when they were children and scared themselves whilst watching TV. Read on to hear more...

From The Trenches: The Serial KillerĀ

10/28/2013

They say that in the film business you get to go to all sorts of places and meet all sorts of people.  This is true, because I got to meet Donald Harvey.

Donald Harvey’s killing spree came to an end in 1987. It was a fluke, one of those dumbass coincidences that all too often seem to do the job DNA testing and black-lights can’t.

Donald had poured cyanide into the feeding tube of a near-comatose patient who’d suffered massive brain injuries in a motorcycle accident. Ohio law dictates that anyone dying as a result of a traffic accident requires an autopsy.

Elementary "Solve for X" (Spoiler Free!)

10/26/2013

So, series two is starting to take form, with the second episode just as good as the first. I needn't bore you with the trivial talk of how much the series has improved, or how much was riding on this episode being as good as the last, because you all know that as well. Needless to say, you can all take comfort in the fact that you won't be disappointed with this episode.

I remember sitting in maths lessons and thinking that Pythagoras was the trickiest equation I would ever have to see, until I saw this episode, where the problem is whole lot deadlier. Sherlock and Watson are on the case to solve the mystery of two dead mathematicians on the brink of solving one of the greatest math's problems: P vs. NP. Sounds very straightforward, but this episode is far from straightforward.

AHS: Coven "The Replacements" (Spoilers!)

The third episode continues right where the second ended. It continues to to focus its attention on the story of Fiona and her lust for power, Zoe's strange obsession with Kyle, and Cordelia's inability to have a child. It insults the audience by pretending to develop the minor character when those scenes only serve to enhance the stories of the three characters in focus.

Once Upon a Time "Nasty Habits" (Spoilers!)

“Welcome home Baelfire…”
“Feel likes just yesterday Baelfire...”

With a bucketful of American drawl from Pan’s number one Lost Boy (Baelfyyyyre) Once Upon a Time drops several hints that we are going to have a very Neal-centric episode. And why ever not?

Agents of SHIELD "Eye Spy" (Spoilers!)

10/25/2013

Picture

Okay so this episode started off rather strangely; It starts in Stockholm, Sweden, with the appearance of a load of red-masked identical-looking guys carrying identical briefcases. It was a beginning that brought a confused look to my face, not exactly expected. The camera’s main focus, however, is a woman, with her eyes closed and headphones in. She follows a group of the men to a train and, whilst the train is moving, disables the lights, takes one of the briefcases, and escapes. It just so happens that she managed to know which one of the suitcase contained diamonds, adding to the total thirty million pounds worth of diamonds she had stolen. But how could she know when all of the people and cases they carried were identical?

Return To The Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam & Burt

10/25/2013

Picture

Every now and then, there comes a time when a fondly remembered TV show of yesteryear gets marked for a particular treatment: the reunion special, and this can come in many a guise. The most common comes in the form of the standard bringing together of the cast and crew for a Q&A session, often on the anniversary of the show. For recent examples, look to last year's 10-year anniversary Firefly reunion or the very recent reunion for The X-Files. Other times, it's a more subtle approach, with actors reuniting (sometimes in character) in completely different shows, like the promised return of Corey and Topanga in sequel show Girl Meets World, or the multi-episode arc in Curb Your Enthusiasm that briefly brought the Seinfeld crew back to our screens. It's always good to see the old faces together again. It gives us a chance to sit down with the TV stars we shared our time with so long ago and reminisce about the good old days. Even better when we see them in action, getting into scrapes just like they used to back in the day. It helps to remind us of why we loved the show in the first place.

The Tomorrow People "Girl Interrupted" (Spoilers!)

Girl, Interrupted, the third episode of the new CW show The Tomorrow People, dives head first into the story of Cara, developing her character through her break-out. Coinciding with Cara's story is the story of a young woman named Emily (Cali Fredrichs) a fellow student at Stephen's High School who feels responsible for her sister's death and Stephen overhears her thoughts about her own death. The aptly named title comes from the book and movie of the same name, a biography of Susanna Kaysen during her time at a psychiatric hospital.

Elementary "Step Nine" (Spoiler Free!)

With Elementary beginning its second series, you would hope that it would continue as the first series ended. Not necessarily with the same storyline, but the same style and wit that the first series brought to our screens. I feel honoured to say that Elementary has opened the series with a bang!

Batman: The 1966 Television Series

10/24/2013

Picture
by Cookie N Screen

Nowadays Batman is the raspy voiced crusader that we have all come to know and admire. Following on from the success of gritty Nolan trilogy, Batman has sparked a new generation of superheroes crying over the past and destroying villains whilst wearing drab outfits. This reboot of Batman has changed the face of superhero movies, giving them this entirely realistic feel that have won over audiences and critics.

But Batman didn’t always have this reputation. In fact, Batman was so far from this image that if I was in the sixties and I told you that Batman would become this shadowy figure, you’d laugh in my face quicker than you can say Shark Repellent.

This was because of a little television series named Batman that was big, colourful and as camp as ever!
