Once again, ONCE put a new spin on a classic this week, delving further into Maleficent’s history, reintroducing Aurora and several cases of finger pricking, but also Regina’s early days of villainy. In the Storybrooke present, villainous plans were beginning to be revealed one card and kidnapping at a time… by Helen Langdon The Discworld novels are beloved. And there’s only one way to please everyone when adapting a beloved series – don’t do it. That’s why it wasn’t until 2006, 23 years after The Colour of Magic was first published, for Sky One to start producing live-action adaptations of life on the Great Turtle’s back. by Robbie Jones What an episode. Jesus Christ, that was an experience. Heartbreaking, terrifying, and badass enough to make you fist pump. The Walking Dead is on a real high this week. by Gemma Williams This show just keeps on getting more terrifying and tense each week. Do you think you would excel in a Zombie Apocalypse? Watch this show and then re-evaluate that claim. This is how I always saw them to be and why they terrify me so much. It’s not some glorified, romanticised situation like many people seem to think; it is deadly and every man for himself. by Hayley Charlesworth Russell T Davies’ interconnecting series, Cucumber, Banana and Tofu concluded not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with an introspected look at humanity, grief, and quite obviously, sex. As Henry’s story concluded in Cucumber, Banana focused less on sexuality and more on exploitation, but both packed an emotional punch. by Britta Lundin As the Teen Wolf creator and cast took to the stage at PaleyFest Wednesday, one person was conspicuously absent -- Tyler Hoechlin. The same day, MTV announced the popular actor who plays the brooding werewolf Derek Hale will be downgraded from series regular in season five, although creator Jeff Davis assured fans, "We have not seen the last of Derek Hale." Davis said the idea came from Hoechlin, who "wanted to do new things... He wanted to do other things that scare him." Instead, season five of Teen Wolf will focus attention on the actual teens of Beacon Hills. As the leads head into their senior year of high school, Davis says, the season is "all about the fear of losing your friends after graduation." by Gloria Daniels-Moss Leave it to Frank to have Russian anarchists ruin his dinner party whilst he tries his damndest to butter up Viktor Petrov, their current President. Politically speaking this is a necessary episode, albeit if it wasn’t for the theatrics interrupting the hors d’oeuvre’s it would have made for a rather eventless hour. by Leah Stone You know a show is good when you are faced with the task of writing a review but have to rewrite the introduction five times because everything you write doesn’t seem to do the show justice. Well that’s it, after sixteen episodes, The 100 series two is over. To say that it was an emotional rollercoaster is perhaps one of the biggest understatements in history. We saw Finn slaughter innocent grounders, we’ve seen Clarke kill the man she loves and we’ve seen Lincoln struggle through withdrawing from the reaper drug. We’ve seen teenagers drilled to death for their bone marrow, one of the most touching kisses and the biggest betrayal. With all of this doom and gloom, why do we still watch it? by Leah Stone One of the reasons why Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is such a great show is that it doesn’t just focus on S.H.I.E.L.D. itself. It also brings in other characters from the Marvel universe and develops their characters, with some episodes tying into the Marvel films (the pilot took place after the events in Iron Man 3, and there are also ties to Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.) This week, we see the inclusion of a very confused Lady Sif as she chases after a man with no reason as to why. However, this plot isn’t wonderful at portraying Sif as the kick-ass warrior that she is. In her amnesiac state, she appears more like a confused child (which we know she most definitely isn’t.) |
