Once Upon a Time in Wonderland "Heart of Stone" (Spoilers!)

11/21/2013

Picture
By Julia Lawson

Kicking things off, Will and Anastasia are mid-jump through the magic mirror to Wonderland when they are caught in the act by her mother…

The following lecture about how she’s a failure, throwing her life away, not princess material, can’t live on love etc etc is almost expected. But she concludes her rant with “the only way you’ll be coming back into my house is with a bucket to empty my chamberpot…”

Lovely. Shall we move on to find out what happened next…

A Young Doctor's Notebook

11/21/2013

Picture
By Cookie 'N' Screen

There are always three paths for child actors. There is the fading into obscurity where you don’t actually know if they existed in the first place; just robots created by the Disney Company. There is also the crack route, otherwise known as the ‘Lindsey Loh-lane,” where the pressure of fame causes them to turn to booze and drugs. Then there is a lighter path where the child star naturally progresses into adulthood with talent and a fruitful career in acting. You’d be forgiven, for a second, in thinking that Daniel Radcliffe was hovering down the first two. But once you watch his new drama A Young Doctor’s Notebook, you may change your mind

Top 10 Doctor Who Aliens

11/20/2013

Now, I am not going to include The Doctor because well, in my opinion no alien, no matter how weird, evil, inventive or quirky, could ever beat him. So instead I am going to look at the aliens The Doctor comes across on his travels, and why they are on my top 10 list.

The Vampire Diaries The Death and the Maiden (Spoilers!)

11/20/2013

Picture
By Gemma Williams

This latest episode will wrap up a few on-going storylines in surprising ways so be prepared as things in Mystic Falls are going to change. The Silas and Amara storyline will finish as well as a surprising aspect to Bonnie’s resurrection. It will get slightly confusing as there are now three versions of Nina running around the set but it works, and it works well.

The Eighth Doctor

Before I begin, I am fresh to this series. I am seeing it through new eyes and don’t have the detailed and knowledgeable background as some may have. I thought I’d make that clear. Although I have massive love for McGann, it came from a movie basis (and the fact I have a school girl crush on him.)

The Alternative Comedy Experience

11/19/2013

Picture
By Hayley Charlesworth

Hosted by the inimitable Stewart Lee, Comedy Central UK's The Alternative Comedy Experience is an excellent exploration of comedy that doesn't quite fit into the mainstream of terrestrial television panel shows. While some of the names may be familiar (David O'Doherty is amongst the names on the bill) there are a lit of delights rarely made available to comedy fans outside of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Homeland is back my friends. Yes, last week it started to find its legs and this week it has returned to decent television. No bullshit, no boredom, no Chris: Just how Homeland should be.

I’m happy to say that the latest episode has kept with the high quality of the previous. Perhaps now the quality of the episodes will stay steady from now on? Here’s hoping…

Vincent and the Doctor, and a Brand New Whovian

11/18/2013

Picture
by Cookie 'N' Screen

It has taken me a long time to get into Doctor Who. A long time. Only recently after a promise to my younger siblings has The Doctor fallen through the cracks and found a home in my little heart. You’ll have to excuse me for it, when it comes to television I am wholly ignorant and chose to reside happily in my film world.  But working for a site so impassioned for Doctor Who and being perhaps the one member who didn’t Doctor Who every day meant that I was way behind the rest. I missed what they were all enthused about, I couldn’t see it and chose to only see the bad effects or strained cheesy monsters.

But I am currently sat here watching episode after episode without any other push from other Doctor Who fans. In fact, this was all me; I had a bite and now I can’t let go because it has all finally clicked. I don’t quite want to let go.

Detestable TV: "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here"

11/17/2013

Picture
By Alex Doust

So here we are again, another year and another batch of “celebrities” have been conned, blackmailed and begged their way back onto TV. What would the build up to Christmas be if not punctuated with these wonderful moments when you see celebrities you hate choking on a kangaroo testicle or a 3 month old rotting egg?

So along with the usual mix of terrible soap actors/actresses/band members/models we have the 90’s legend Alfonso Ribeiro, best known as Carlton, Will Smith’s nerdy step brother in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Olympic Gold Medallist Rebecca Adlington, two people who actually don’t fit the usual Z list we’ve come to expect…
