Doctor Who is a science fiction show with no limits on adventure. The Doctor is a time-travelling Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey and is currently over a thousand-years-old. He uses his TARDIS, a Gallifreyan time-ship disguised as a 1950’s British police box, to traverse through space and time. This means that he can travel to anywhere and everywhere throughout the universe and sometimes (albeit accidentally!) beyond the universe with his trusty companion, usually a woman from modern day Earth.

The show was brought back with Christopher Eccleston in the title role, but sadly he only stayed one series, and at the end of that, the beloved Scotsman David Tennant took over the role, and stole the hearts of several fans, old and new. by Xavier Gonne and William John Should there be a female Doctor? It's a question that has divided Doctor Who fans for decades. Are we ready for a female Doctor? Is it finally time for woman's touch in the TARDIS? The 12th Doctor might be exploding onto our screens today, but before Peter Capaldi was cast, there was a LOT of speculation that the BBC had decided to make a very big change to our titular hero. Today, Xavier Gonne and William John find themselves in ether side of the battle. Who's side so you fall on? by Hayley Charlesworth Christopher Eccleston is my Doctor. Sure, I grew up watching re-runs of all eight Doctors before him, having previously identified Patrick Troughton as my favourite, but Eccleston was the first Doctor for my era. He was a Doctor from Manchester, so he shared my accent. And he was, to use his favourite word, fantastic. Often overlooked due to the immense popularity of David Tennant and Matt Smith, due to his short tenure and less than amicable exit, he was nevertheless remarkable. Along with Russell T Davies and Billie Piper, Christopher Eccleston was responsible for bringing back an old science-fiction show that in many people’s eyes had become a joke, and not only having people watch it, but made it once again the BBC’s biggest show ever. It was a risk to bring back Doctor Who, and in lesser hands, it may have failed, but Christopher Eccleston is too immense a talent to let that happen. Yes, the day has finally arrived. Over the past few weeks, you've been voting for your favourite Doctor Who companions. Obviously not everyone could get a look-in (we offer sincere apologies to Zoe, Vicki and some of the other random young women the Doctor has travelled with), and we only included TV companions, so no Fitz or Erimem, no matter how many Big Finish fans there are. But it was all leading up to this. You may not agree, but this is how the people have spoken (feel free to disagree vociferously in the comments). In our quest to find the Ultimate I'm With Geek Doctor Who Companion, it's either Amy Pond, or Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. And we've got a bullet point list as to why each deserves the title, just in case you're still wavering. by Cookie N Screen It's now time in our countdown to talk about possibly one of the most attractive Doctors in the show's entire history. Yes, that's right, Paul McGann. Apart from the casual New Who episodes, I was never that obsessed with the television sci-fi adventure until the luscious-locked, blue-eyed Liverpudlian came bounding into my life. By far my favourite Doctor, Eight is an interesting, albeit short-lived character played by fan-pleasing actor Paul McGann. And for those who don't know, he is a massive fan of I'm With Geek too. Have you voted in yesterday’s semi-final yet, choosing between the Ponds? Today, our Doctor Who Companion Faceoff is a classic one, with Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart going up against Turlough (somehow the sneak keeps on getting through each round). So, let’s look at some of their memorable moments! by Hayley Charlesworth Fresh from two BAFTA wins earlier this year; BBC Three’s zombie drama In the Flesh has recently concluded its second series. But with the future of BBC Three still up in the air, what’s next for this fantastic show itself is still a bit of a mystery. Hayley Charlesworth chatted to show creator and head writer Dominic Mitchell about what’s next for Kieren Walker and co, the issues the show tackles, and getting your first commission as a writer. by Cookie N Screen We’re only days away from the great ruddy blue box flying down into our living rooms (or cinemas) and delighting us with a brand new face. As Peter Capaldi soars into position of our favourite characters, we cannot contain ourselves with all the adventures and enemies that he and companion Clara will face. There is one foe on our lips that, if brought back, would have us squealing with pleasure: The Master. And it is entirely in the realms of possibilities for The Doctors greatest enemy to come bounding back into our Doctor Who lives. But who would excel in the mantle of The Master? by Paul Robert Scott Sylvester McCoy took over as the Doctor in 1987 during one of the show’s rockiest periods. With Colin Baker having been removed from the show, McCoy was brought in as a breath of levity from the sixth Doctor’s arrogance and abrasiveness. However, while McCoy initially began his part as a buffoonish comedian, he was soon made into one of the most interesting versions of the Time Lord. On first glance, he would come across as everyone’s favourite eccentric uncle, complete with question mark cardigan and umbrella; although a deeper inspection would reveal a much darker character. |
