But it was all leading up to this. You may not agree, but this is how the people have spoken (feel free to disagree vociferously in the comments). In our quest to find the Ultimate I'm With Geek Doctor Who Companion, it's either Amy Pond, or Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. And we've got a bullet point list as to why each deserves the title, just in case you're still wavering.
- Grows up dreaming of the Doctor
- Runs away on the eve of her wedding
- The Girl Who Waited, The Legs, Orangey Girl
- Only companion to travel in the TARDIS with her husband, daughter and father-in-law
- Brings the Doctor back into the universe using only her memories
- Sacrifices a life with the Doctor for a life with Rory
- There at the Eleventh Doctor's beginning, and kind of there at his end
- Notable enemies faced: The Silence, the Weeping Angels, Autons (well, she does nearly get killed by one)
- First meets the Doctor while dealing with Yetis in the Underground and the Great Intelligence
- Works directly with the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Seventh Doctors, along with meeting the First in person while on Gallifrey, and running into the Sixth Doctor on Albert Square (the 30th Anniversary celebrations not being as great as the 50th)
- Only companion to receive an in-universe, on-screen eulogy (RIP, Nicholas Courtney)
- Helped create UNIT to defend Earth from alien invasion, and ran the British contingent
- Military man, but taught his daughter than "science leads" rather than brute force
- Appeared in an Uncanny X-Men comic
- Notable enemies faced: Autons, the Master, the Great Intelligence, Cybermen
And then tell us in the comments who we should have included, and who your top companions would be.
