Doctor Who: Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS - Review

Three men, two brothers and an android, are on a salvaging ship, diligently working through its slim pickings. Meanwhile the TARDIS is whizzing through space; inside the good Doctor and Clara are having a... Can we call it an argument? She’s still convinced that sexy doesn’t like her and the Doctor’s solution has her in a spin; talk to her.

“You’re not getting me to talk to your ship, that’s properly bonkers!” Clara tells him. Between you and me, I don’t think she’s caught on that the TARDIS is alive. Instead the Doctor offers up a plan B; take the wheel. Out of the goodness of his hearts he even puts it into basic mode for her. With a key engraved “Smiths” as well - anyone else spot that? “Basic?” Clara says, “because I’m a girl?”

“No!” The Doctor assures her, though his smirk tells a different story. Now, is it just me or should the Doctor stop putting his TARDIS into basic mode and stop letting his companions play with it? It never bodes well. Remember the Titanic?

It’s a dark and stormy night over Caliburn house, but that won’t stop Alec Palmer and his companion, Emma Grayling from their mission; There’s a ghost haunting the mansion and it’s time for the spirit to move on. There’s a knock at the door. Normal at first but growing harder. More insistent and demanding with every knock. A nervous Palmer approaches. Pulls the door open. There’s nobody there.

It’s official; Doctor Who’s 2013 Christmas special will have pairs of hearts breaking up and down the country as Matt Smith finally admits he’s stepping down as the ancient time-traveller.

“I’ve had the best three-years of my life at Doctor Who. It’s been brilliant but i feel it’s time for me to move on,” 30 year-old Smith enthuses. He’s also quick to quash rumors that a rift with new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman forced him out of the TARDIS; “Jenna’s been fantastic - I’ve absolutely loved working with her,” he beams, “I’ve been approached for several other projects and want to bow out while I’m still enjoying it.”
