St Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest drinking days on the calendar, and no show on television has ever combined Ireland and drinking as well as Black Books, the Dylan Moran sitcom that ran for three seasons. Co-written in the first season by Graham Linehan (with the following two written by Moran, Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley), it firmly stakes its claim as one of Ireland’s great contributions to comedy, despite being set in London and Moran being the only Irish person in the cast.

Today we celebrate all things on the Emerald Isle’s and all the talent that comes from the great Ireland. This was originally planned as a look at Sky’s fantastic little comedy Moone Boy but slowly turned into an ode to Chris O’Dowd. So why not? Let’s have an ode to all things O’Dowd today, a brilliantly talented Irishman who we’ve all taken to our hearts. by Julia Lawson With a flourish of purple smoke Once Upon a Time explodes back into our lives after a three month break! Our fairytale heroes find themselves back in the Enchanted Forest. Emma and Henry are living in New York with no memory of magic. That is, until Hook arrives at the door filling their heads with stories: “You’re a crazy person, or a liar, or both…” “I prefer dashing rapscallion… or scoundrel… [raised eyebrow]” Welcome back OUAT, it’s been too long! by Cookie N Screen It’s the moment of truth in Hannibal’s “Hassun” and it’s time for Will Graham to make a stand. And finally, we get to some juicy moments of series three that sees all our favourite distasteful characters from the previous season gather to testify against Graham or for him. What starts off as a bog standard Law & Order courtroom case soon sees “Hassun” battle against wrongful accusations of boredom and fleshes out this series with more things that we can sink our teeth soon. But it hasn’t fully recovered from a pretty dull couple of episodes. by Hayley Charlesworth Being an audience member for a TV show recording can sometimes be daunting. Being an audience member for a live broadcast TV show, where your seating placement means you are almost always on camera, can be even more daunting. This was the position I was in at the recording of last Friday’s The Last Leg, and it’s amazing how having a camera pointed at you can make you conscious of your every movement. Luckily, a brilliant edition of the Channel 4 comedy meant that self-consciousness soon faded away, and the experience of watching such a show turned out to be fascinating. by Helen Langdon And so, Inside No 9 came to an end with not a whimper, or a bang, but instead the muffled screams of a tied-up half-naked teenager. by Gemma Williams This article will be covering both episodes fifteen and sixteen of The Originals. It’s a strong competitor in the ratings with The Vampire Diaries and is leading off with an impressive first season. by Helen Langdon Ashes to Ashes star Keeley Hawes, currently appearing in the critically acclaimed BBC drama Line of Duty, has just been announced as the latest member of the Doctor Who cast. She will face down Peter Capaldi’s Doctor for one episode of the eighth series, Capaldi’s first in the Tardis. by Verushka Byrow In this episode, someone is wreaking vengeance for the death of a Aaron, a boy who was shot and killed in the grounds of a house – a security house of the future. Run on an absolutely lethal system, the house essentially protects itself, with laser-guided guns, no less. So the tragedy of the death of a boy is causing … quite the disruption (forgive me, I couldn’t resist) for the company, even one year later. by Julia Lawson It’s back. Silliness, magic, genies and well placed quotes from Michael Socha - the adventures in Wonderland continue… But first a brief recap. Alice and Cyrus are reunited once more, him having been trapped in a bottle/in a prison/on the run for most of his life. The Red Queen, aka Anastasia, has broken ties with Jafar, in the hope of repairing her life with Will. Unfortunately for her, he is now a genie due to the ‘magic comes with a price’ clause, sub-section 6c in the Once Upon a Time rulebook. Jafar is just Jafar… |
