With a flourish of purple smoke Once Upon a Time explodes back into our lives after a three month break! Our fairytale heroes find themselves back in the Enchanted Forest. Emma and Henry are living in New York with no memory of magic. That is, until Hook arrives at the door filling their heads with stories:
“You’re a crazy person, or a liar, or both…”
“I prefer dashing rapscallion… or scoundrel… [raised eyebrow]”
Welcome back OUAT, it’s been too long!
Regina is missing Henry and cuts out her own heart and tries to bury it in the forest; Snow talks her round so she takes it back. All wrapped up nicely with a bow one might say. WRONG – there was something in a nearby bush and all of a sudden the pair are under attack from a FLYING MONKEY! Hint number one for the new villain. Luckily for them Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) arrives to save the day, wounding the monkey with an arrow.
To fill the void in their lives left by magic, sword fighting and family drama the two play video games – Henry (Jared Gilmore) is at Level 23. He would never have accomplished that juggling two mums, two ‘dark/evil’ relatives and a great grandfather intent on world domination; and he’s a knight now after Level 16 – take that Grandpa Charming.
Hook left Emma with questions, leading her to break into Neal’s old apartment and meet a stranger (who believes that he is a pirate) in the park. But after a trail of events involving handcuffs, the police and Hook’s characteristic hand removal she concludes that she may as well accept his offer of the magic blue potion to give her back her memories. And as there was only enough for one person, this time around it will be Emma convincing Henry of the existence of magic and his fairytale heritage.
Her first point of call is to let down her potential fiancé, Walsh (Christopher Gorham). There is a nagging suspicion that he is not all he seems – a fairytale character? A magic fanatic? A stalker? Worse…
HE’S A FLYING MONKEY!
Emma, Henry and Hook drive into the newly restored Storybrooke - yellow car, red saviour jacket and a hook-handed Killian Jones. The priority is to talk to David (Charming) and Mary Margaret (Snow) and try to understand the curse. They all remember each other, but have forgotten the year they spent in the Enchanted Forest. How do we know it was a year? Well Snow has a rather large baby bump which didn’t just appear overnight…
Once upon a time there was a show full of magic and excitement. It’s back.
