It’s the moment of truth in Hannibal’s “Hassun” and it’s time for Will Graham to make a stand. And finally, we get to some juicy moments of series three that sees all our favourite distasteful characters from the previous season gather to testify against Graham or for him. What starts off as a bog standard Law & Order courtroom case soon sees “Hassun” battle against wrongful accusations of boredom and fleshes out this series with more things that we can sink our teeth soon.
But it hasn’t fully recovered from a pretty dull couple of episodes.
Finally, we get to go through a lot of the dense stuff and get a glimpse at the juicy Lecter’s deviations into the mind of Will are still wrought with intrigue. Yet again, we find him toying with not only the emotions of the sad sap of an FBI investigator but even we are being fooled again. Is Lecter really trying to absolve Will after the mess he put him? The answer will always be no but we get a tantalisingly toying this week that is different, especially after Lecter hints that he is the killer at people throughout, (especially with the bodies of both baliff and judge.) It’s rather witty in a way, to see him leave clues, divulge in the trial and all the tension around Will. It’s Lecter’s doings that make this still an iconic show and added to the annoying characters we love to hate being delightfully slimy (Freddie Lounds and Dr Chilton.)
It's appealing visually as usual and definitely clever. Again, with “Hassun” the most exciting moment is the thirty second preview of the next episode, as we take a glimpse at Beverley investigating Hannibal on Will’s request. And the serious lack of Bedelia, alive or un-alive, is unnerving. At the moment, Hannibal looks like it is definitely heading back to the heights of season one but it is still slowly doing so. With poor ratings and a drop in viewership, the second season curse that Bryan Fuller is famous for may or may not break Hannibal. Unless it pulls something stellar out of the bag, Hannibal may be having its last meal.
