Ahhhh, we are definitely seeing a bigger influx of cult movies heading to the small screen for their own series. There’s the great ones including Fargo and Hannibal, then there are the terrible ones like Bates Motel and the dwindling 12 Monkeys. See just because one television show, like the aforementioned greats, work well is because they are made by people passionate about the original canon or they strike a great tone of character development and juicy thickening plots. The latter examples? Well, they do the complete opposite and it is just pure dullness.
Now we have Scream coming to MTV. And with the latest trailer, we’re less than hopeful.
“You can’t turn a slasher into a television series” says the promo which definitely relates back to Jamie Kennedy’s media obsessed Randy and certainly has that element of tongue in cheek fourth wall breaking goodness that we all know and love. However, the acting doesn’t seem on point and the plot sees a bit choppy. Unless executed well it seems to be just a show with extravagant deaths and it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work so much it hurts.
So bad, I wanna scream.
