Secrets are revealed on this week's episode, All Tomorrow's Parties, as Stephen faces a mysterious partner behind Ultra, John falters as leader of the Tomorrow People, and the gang goes topside for a party.
Meanwhile Stephen's impact has been felt not only at Ultra but in the abandoned train tunnel as well. We open up to John escorting Kurt Rundle back after he attempted to make contact with his mother. The two argue over the group going topside. John is steadfast in his argument, though a bit over zealous, of it being too dangerous to go topside. It's fairly clear that there has been an increase in Ultra activity over the past several weeks, resulting in injuries and a capture. Kurt argues the lack of fairness is allowing Stephen to go topside and live his old life. In the end Kurt is warned that the next time he leaves he shouldn't come back.
This weakness, though may be short lived. This episode has left a lot of questions about John for his compatriots. His judgment, leadership, and trust have all come into questioned. He's been stood up to by Kurt Rundle, Stephen, and Cara.
The duel is the only significant amount of time the powers are used within the episode. Really if there is one complaint about the entirety of the series so far, it is that for a show about people with mutant powers there really is a small amount of mutant powers. Every episode we get a lot of teleportation and mind reading but the use of telekinesis is barely touched. With an action drama we want to see the action. When we do its in short supply and not always used in the best ways. The show lacks when it comes to choreography.
Cara wins and the Tomorrow People go to the party. Its here where the individual story lines begin to intertwine, as we reach the climax and things don't end well for the Cara, John, and the gang.
All hell breaks loose as Ultra opens fire on the Tomorrow People, Stephen having seen enough musters up enough power to cut the power off with a telekinetic burst. This is interesting, to say the least, because it begs the question was Stephen able to overpower the D-Chips or will it be explained away. If so Stephen is being made to be even more powerful than before.
Chaos remains the theme to the end of the episode as the group fights to escape the clutches of Ultra and in the ensuing skirmish Cara witnesses John gun down one of their members. The group, for the most part, makes it back to the abandoned train station, far from unscathed.
The episode wraps itself up with Stephen returning to find Astrid in his bedroom. She says that she followed him and questions what he has been doing and why he has blood on his shirt. He teleports Astrid and himself, revealing his powers to her.
The episode ends with a lot of loose ends and the Tomorrow people appearing to be falling apart. A wedge has been driven between John and Cara and Stephen revealed himself to a human and may have lost the trust Ultra had in him. Its nicely done by the crew leaving the episode the way they did. The show is left in chaos and the audience is looking for answers. The next episode begs to be watched.
