The Originals returns from a week’s break on top form with the usual betrayal, family drama and death. Tyler seems to be out of commission already and has Klaus really been showing his humanity all this time without us realising? Read on to find out…
Marcel introduces Tyler to his vampires. Rebekah walks in amidst Tyler catching everybody up on his past as a hybrid and describing the sire bond to Klaus. Fearless Rebekah tells them that she’s on her side, and then she snaps Tyler’s neck and flops down in his chair like a Queen. She commands them to stop talking about harming the baby as Klaus is their target.
While writing Klaus’ life story, Cami psychoanalyses Klaus as a self-destructive individual who keeps repeating the same mistakes and won’t trust anybody. Any loyal viewer will know that she’s right but also that he has good reason not to trust anybody. Much of it may be his own doing, but it probably stems from a father who wanted him dead most of his life.
Elijah’s hybrid / werewolf bite has caused him to suffer from a fever. He dreams of a woman named Celeste who was a love of his in the past, and also a witch. When Hayley touches him, she falls witness to the dreams.
Klaus walks into a trap where Marcel and Rebekah are waiting for him with a large number of vampires ready to attack. Klaus throws a coin on the floor and tells them all that whoever picks up the coin can live but everyone is loyal to Marcel and so no one moves a muscle. A few vampires run at Klaus but he cuts through them pretty quickly and without even breaking a sweat. More vampires join in the fight against him by throwing chains around his limbs. Rebekah drops the dagger on the floor when she realises that she can’t dagger him. He gets a second wind and attacks in a frenzy, killing everyone who gets in his path. Rebekah begs Marcel to pick up the coin and end the madness. Marcel retrieves the coin and surrenders all of his power to Klaus.
Klaus stands over his new kingdom while Marcel lectures him on how he has no respect or loyalty from the vampires so he won’t get far as the ‘King’. The corpses of all the vampires are laid out in front of him and cremated.
Klaus accuses Elijah of stealing away Hayley by being kind to her and says that his child will end up calling Elijah ‘father’. Rebekah explains that they never leave him behind, he pushes them away. Klaus tells them that he’s really tried for them recently but they both turned against him regardless. He gives Elijah the dagger back and leaves. Elijah and Rebekah both look guilty when they realise what Klaus has done for them. Klaus forces Hayley into the car.
Earlier, Klaus had asked Cami about a doodle she had been drawing. She had told him it was a tattoo design. Now she tells the Pastor, her uncle, that she had been writing a message to herself subconsciously. She found a picture with Klaus and Marcel from 1919 and knows who they are, despite her forgetting everything about vampires and witches when she leaves Klaus’ presence.
Tyler seemed to disappear pretty quickly. I don’t know if he will be returning for the next episode of if he will be gone for a while. Maybe Klaus will find him but that won’t end well. He could die and Bonnie, on The Vampire Diaries, would know when he passed through her to go to the other side, and would tell Caroline. Countless things could happen from here but there’s no real way of knowing what it could be. I don’t know if I want him to die or not. I loved him with Caroline to start with but whenever he has to leave the series for whatever reason, his character becomes an absolute douchebag towards her. Saying that though, if Tyler died, Caroline would find out and an excuse would be created for her to then crossover to the The Originals and see Klaus once again.
Hayley and Elijah are clearly bonding, a fact that Klaus has not missed out on and seems to be rather jealous of. He still loves Caroline so I imagine he’s more jealous about the baby than Hayley herself but that would become an odd family tree. The baby’s mother would be in a relationship with the father’s brother, or the baby’s uncle. Still, I want Elijah to be happy, especially after Katherine played with his mind again and we now all know that he can’t be with her due to the doppelgangers destiny and her currently uncertain future.
This show is getting interesting now despite a weak opening. I didn’t feel like this week’s episode was anything special and I really can’t see where they’re planning on going from here but that only makes it all the more exciting for next Tuesday and the next episode!
