After last week’s amazing episode, The Originals has returned with more surprises in store. Last week felt like a mid-season finale so this week had a lot to live up to. A new story arch introduced and you will want to hear this.
After last week’s amazing episode, The Originals has returned with more surprises in store. Last week felt like a mid-season finale so this week had a lot to live up to. A new story arch introduced and you will want to hear this.
Rebekah was as glamorous and as whiny as always when having a tantrum against Klaus. She has her epic badass moments but this week was just a repeat of The Vampire Diaries and the majority of the episodes in this show so far; Klaus is a spoilt brat, ruins her life, she wants revenge so she can get away, she ends up forgiving him. She is currently plotting against him, yet again, and as usual this leads to nothing but trouble for her. When will she realise that if she wants to escape Klaus’ hold on her, the only option she has is to run. Rebekah is a great character with a bucketful of potential; why aren’t the writers giving her storylines to better fit the character?
Marcel’s humanity is shown and it’s touching. Vampires are so often portrayed as emotionless ninjas or sparkly wimps who are in touch with their feelings. Marcel has the perfect balance of both, thankfully minus the glittering skin! While Marcel is trying to deal with the aftermath of a catastrophic event, Klaus is telling him to move on in his usual, empathic manner. Remind me again, Klaus, why Rebekah is desperate to escape your clutches?
The story itself has introduced a different side to witchcraft than the audience are used to from either show. This is darker and more dangerous; it spells trouble for all vampires. Yes, this includes the unkillable Original family. Even normal witches are terrified of what this means. This is compelling as the show is bringing something entirely new to the table and it’s difficult to predict where this will lead.

Despite all of this, it was an excellent episode and led on from last week spotlessly. Everything made sense and flowed fluidly. The show is getting more mature over time and even gave a feeling of American Horror Story. This could possibly beat The Vampire Diaries as currently they are on par with each other but The Originals is quickly overtaking. The show overall started out slowly but now that it’s developing, it’s moving quickly; it’s so exciting!
