With the news the recent news that the Scarlet Speedster would be receiving a completely separate, big screen adaptation as part of DC’s upcoming film roster, fears over The Flash TV series longevity began to circulate; it’s clear the fledgling TV show spin-off is going to have to stand it’s ground and prove it’s worth. And, for the most part, it’s succeeding.
Poisonous Gas Man, or ‘Mist’ as Cisco names him, is very much secondary to this week’s episode, which focusses more on the teams containment issue, where do you keep meta-human criminals? Well, the remains of the Particle Accelerator, apparently, which gives way to a series of expository Flashbacks™, this time focussing on the night of the STAR Labs explosion. We’re given insight into Caitlin’s tragedy with her fiancé, Ronnie Raymond (AKA DC Comics’ Firestorm, played by Arrow star Stephen Amell’s cousin, Robbie Amell.) Ronnie’s morals get the better of him as he tries desperately to save the people of Central City, leading to a tearful farewell with his beloved fiancé, though judging by what we’ve seen so far, I doubt we’ve seen the end of Raymond!
Three episodes in, The Flash is finally finding its feet, but now it’s time to break the format and show us that the show isn’t as formulaic as it appears to be. Arrow’s Felicity is guest starring next week, so let’s see how that goes.
