The last few episodes of The 100 have been intense. Events have escalated between the main group and the Grounders, and last week war was postponed as Raven blew up the bridge between the camps. This week, we start off with another major problem: A fire that wipes out all of the food supply, leaving Finn and Clarke to go hunting.
The last few episodes of The 100 have been intense. Events have escalated between the main group and the Grounders, and last week war was postponed as Raven blew up the bridge between the camps. This week, we start off with another major problem: A fire that wipes out all of the food supply, leaving Finn and Clarke to go hunting.
You can sense a climax building. As things between the two groups grow more intense, the atmosphere becomes palpable with anticipation of a battle. But again, at the end of the episode, nothing has happened, raising the question of will there ever be a conclusion to the tensions? However, this episode could just be “The Calm” before the storm, with focus on raising the tension to grander stakes. By the end of the episode, some of the key characters are in extreme danger, with others swiftly heading in a similar direction, and with no deaths since Wells, maybe we'll soon see a smaller cast.

Although there was a feeling that the writers were holding back for something bigger, the plot felt just as intense as previous episodes. Dichen Lachman (Anya) manages to portray the menacing and intimidating head of the Grounders as an emotional and sentimental character. Being able to portray two different personas at the same time helps show Lachman's talent. It's a shame that they contrast this by having McDonnall’s acting reduced practically to puppy dog eyes and sideways glances at Clarke whilst trying to get her to notice his affections. The slower-paced action on the Ark (despite being in a more dire situation than those on the ground) contrasts nicely with what is occurring on earth whilst being just as serious and important.
And so we wait excitedly for next week’s episode. Will we finally see the big battle between The 100 and the Grounders? Will those on the Ark ever make it down to the ground?
