Last week ended with a really dark scene, one of the best chances of finding the Mountain Men and bringing peace with the Grounders had been shot dead and Clarke’s health left questionable. Meanwhile Finn and Murphy are out trying to find Clarke, Kane is off to try and make a deal with the Grounders and Jasper is concerned about Clarke’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile Finn and Murphy are out trying to find Clarke, Kane is off to try and make a deal with the Grounders and Jasper is concerned about Clarke’s whereabouts.
To say a lot occurs this week is an understatement. We have three major emotional plot points. The first causes Jasper to risk his life for someone we know he shouldn’t trust, and we see Finn do something completely atrocious and disgusting, something we would never have expected him to be capable of at the start of the first series. But this shows how much his character has developed and how much situations on the ground have changed him. We also witness great acting skills by Thomas McDowell as Finn reaches the point of no return. Sure, Finn snapping did happen rather suddenly, it’s not as if he has been gradually been getting more and more violent, however the suddenness does add to the shock factor. It is something we would never have expected.
Secondly we see Clarke reunited with Bellamy, Octavia, Raven and most importantly, her mother whom she had not seen in months. Eliza Taylor deserves credit for this scene, managing to make Clarke act distant and cold towards her mother whilst also portraying her happiness that they have been reunited at last.

Thirdly, we have Jasper playing the hero back at Mount Weather. Due to a radiation leak, Maya is severely burnt in a horrifying sequence and the make-up department do a great job to make her look as if she had just walked through a forest fire. Jasper tends to be regularly underestimated and it’s nice to see him take charge of himself and save Maya’s life. We learn more about the dark secrets of Mount Weather, and why Lincoln was picked from the other grounders that had been captured. Knowing all of this bad business whilst the characters do not, has you hoping that they will escape before they get subjected to anything brutal.
The plotlines this week were amazing. So much going on and yet it didn’t feel too busy. We see character development, great make-up, emotion and betrayal.
