The penultimate episode of Star Wars Rebels has drawn to a close and things seem pretty bleak for our group of heroes. Luckily, this week still manages to marry the humour and action along with tension and fear.
This week’s episode contrasted greatly with last week’s, which opted to show the attack against the Empire without devoting much time to the planning involved, whereas the latest episode placed more importance on the plan itself, with the heist taking up the final five minutes or so. Of course, it should be noted that the final three episodes (last week, this week and next week) are all part of one story arc, and so, have a lot more freedom with the time to depict the events.
Whilst the episode focussed predominantly on the Rebels and their plans to rescue Kanan, the Empire’s interrogation methods were also briefly touched upon. Very briefly. Using only two scant scenes to follow the plight of Kanan, the episode managed to portray the viciousness of the torture. The scenes also managed to show a much more commanding side to David Isaac’s Inquisitor, his control of the situation marked him out as a truly sublime villain, one for the annals of hatred, indeed.
Next week’s episode of Star Wars Rebels is the series finale, and accompanying it will almost certainly be a jaw-dropping, pulse-pounding, skin-of-the-teeth rescue mission. I honestly can’t wait.
