Sleepy Hollow has just one more episode before it takes a break for the Christmas season. We’re promised an epic mid-season finale, but how was the episode leading up to it?
Sleepy Hollow has just one more episode before it takes a break for the Christmas season. We’re promised an epic mid-season finale, but how was the episode leading up to it?
This week, a demon nurse threatens the halls of the psychiatric ward where Captain Irving currently resides and where Jenny used to live. Abbey and Jenny have some mother issues which they need to come to terms with; Katrina discovers a brand new horror; and Ichabod has been stricken with a common cold.
With Ichabod out of action, Horley and Jenny help Abbey on her case. But this doesn’t mean Ichabod was missing entirely. Despite it taking him this long to catch a cold, which seems odd when his immune system was used to a completely different time and diseases, the audience get to see him suffering from his affliction. The best moment was when he couldn’t get past the child lock on the bottle of tablets, and when Horley drugs him.
With Ichabod out of action, Horley and Jenny help Abbey on her case. But this doesn’t mean Ichabod was missing entirely. It was interesting seeing Abbey working with her sister and Horley. Ichabod needed more screen time, but this still was not a bad setting. The three functioned well together although there was a missed opportunity for some drama. Horley has had a physical relationship with Jenny in the past, but is now attracted to Abbey. Surprisingly nothing about this came up but perhaps that will come up sometime in the future. Besides, Jenny and Abbey had some beautiful, sisterly bonding moments and it would have been a shame had this been tainted by Horley.
The atmosphere for this entire episode was dark and foggy with little natural lighting, giving it a trapped and isolated feel. The scenes had very little furniture in them, but the few pieces that were there were scattered or few and far between, meaning there was a lot of space and not many places to hide. The music was phenomenal, especially as Jenny and Abbey are uncovering the mural painted on the wall by their mother. The soundtrack was full of mystery and intrigue, while at the same time pulling on the heartstrings.

Magic is playing a larger part in the show, with the characters even starting to embrace it. It is unclear as to whether someone must be born with magic or if anyone can do it. Katrina is a witch and was in a coven, but Jenny was able to summon a ghost. Does that not count as magic or is there more to it than that? The characters are learning, however, that not all magic or supernatural beings are evil; just the majority of the ones they meet. It would be great to see them start meeting some friendlier creatures.
Katrina appears to have been poisoned by Henry once again. When will she stop falling for this? She is goaded into holding the baby, who appears to be a newborn, but is a young child by the end of the episode and is talking! In a scene reminiscent of The Omen, this devil child will play a large role in the future.

Abbey and Ichabod are on a quest for a weapon that can supposedly kill Moloch once and for all and Ichabod comes face to face with a still angry Abraham. If the episode is as good as the trailer, it looks like they will be following through with their promise of an epic finale!
