About a month ago, I went through all the best BAFTA Winning moments from Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson (as part of BBC’s Sherlock adaptation.) Now we finally have an airdate for season three, we are getting treated to a whole slew of trailers and there will be a Christmas Day mini-episode. With all this news coming at us like someone falling off a roof, we can’t help but turn to our favourite bouffant haired highly functioning sociopath and scream “Sherlock Lives!” at the top of our lungs.
That being said, let’s celebrate all things Holmes and countdown our best Sherlock moments of Season One and Two.
Sherlock is a man who believes he is greater than emotions and other people; in particularly, fear. Having faced love with Irene Adler, Sherlock gives in to another human defect. On the hunt of a seemingly scary invention from client Henry Knight, Sherlock comes face to face with a gigantic hound. But to him and everyone around him, the presence of a monster so humungous and hugely vicious is near impossible. In fact, at the beginning of the episode, he was dismissing Knight as a loon. Now he has seen the beast, he can’t believe that his mind and senses has abandoned him. It gives him great terror and you can see it in this scene, where he shakes with his fear. It is also a rather impressive speech where Benedict Cumberbatch seemingly fails to take a breath to reel off a deduction so fast and intelligent that you can hear Gatiss evilly laughing behind the scenes.
Mrs Hudson may seem like a secondary character but she is vital to the boys. The landlady of 221B Baker Street, Mrs Hudson seems to be the one that can coax an almost love out of Sherlock. Mrs Hudson seems to have a wrought background, with Sherlock helpfully putting her husband to death. So if someone upsets her or messes with her, the boys are extremely quick to defend her. They even shout at Mycroft when he tells her to shut up because no one disrespects her. Ever. When Sherlock comes back from finding out that Adler is still alive, he finds that the American Secret Service (or someone similar) has entered his home and taken Mrs Hudson. They’ve taken her and beaten her up, enraging Sherlock more than anything.
So he throws the head henchman out of the window multiple times.
