Original Netflix series Sense8 keeps on adding stars to its cast, with former Doctor Who companion Freema Agyeman announced today as joining the series.
From the brains of the Wachowski siblings (The Matrix) and J Michael Straczynski (creator and show-runner of Babylon 5), Sense8 is Netflix’s latest addition to its original programming. With such a strong sci-fi pedigree, they’ve got to be hoping that it’s just as critically acclaimed as Netflix’s other works.
Each episode will focus on a separate character and their storyline, along with a character, Jonas, who attempts to bring them together, and Mr Whispers, who is trying to assassinate them (so there's probably going to be at least one shock death in the first series – this is speculation, though).
As to who’s been cast in which roles, that’s as yet unknown, although more details will probably become available as production starts in the next month. But thus far, it’s a stellar cast, with Agyeman joining Lost alumnus Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah, Brian J Smith (Stargate: Universe) and Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas) amongst many others, including Brits Tuppence Middleton and Aml Ameen (soon to be seen in dystopic film The Maze Runner). They’ll be part of an international cast, with filming locations set to mirror this by filming across the world.
It’s expected that Sense8 will stream on Netflix in either late 2014, or early 2015 with a ten-episode first season. If it’s a success, Straczynski and the Wachowskis have already devised a plan for five seasons.
