When a TV show kills off a character, it is always someone you don’t particularly care about. Remember when The Simpsons made a big deal about a character dying and it was Maud? Who cared? We moved on pretty quickly. I don’t think that will be the case this time. Family Guy have killed a major character, a character who, for me, made the show worth watching. I guess all good things must come to end.

Brian and Stewie Griffin were a mesmerising twosome who experienced so many out of this world adventures but no more. After their most recent venture, Stewie destroys his time machine and they set up a game of street hockey, when a car races around the corner and totally obliterates Brian! The family get to say goodbye to his mangled body before he dies. A month later a new dog is adopted but Stewie is angered by how quickly everyone is moving on and has been having a hard time since Brian’s death. The new dog, Vinnie, seems fine but he’s no Brian.
Brian made Family Guy and he’s going to be sorely missed. I know I already feel empty and miss the loyal canine. Here’s hoping that Stewie manages to rebuild his time machine eventually and bring Brian back. I would honestly have preferred literally any character, other than Stewie, to die in Brian’s place. The show is good because of Stewie and Brian as a pair. The producers stated that it seemed natural to kill Brian since he was a family pet and would not be as traumatic as a person dying but I disagree. Brian had been personified; he had a personality and he was intelligent and charming. It appears as though Stewie and Vinnie may also develop a beautiful friendship but I do hope they don’t forget about Brian. I think the question on everyone’s mind at the end of this episode was: why couldn’t it be Meg? Rest in Peace, Brian. We hope to see you again soon. On the bright side, now that you’re dead, your books should be worth a ton!
