I never thought, in a million years, that I would say anything bad about lesbian sex. And yet, here I am. Though I largely enjoy the titillation in the episodes of Orange is The New Black, especially because focusing energies on showcasing a spectrum of female orgasms is innovative and pleasing, a friend brought up a massive fact. In Season Two, there seems to be a lot more sex than Season One. As mentioned, it’s rather refreshing to see ladies get to it without the male gaze over sexualising it but at times through series two it becomes distracting and takes away from the story. None of that is more apparent than with Nicky and Big Boo’s “bang off.” Nevertheless, Orange Is The New Black is one of the more enjoyable series of recent years.
We get to see, finally, just how manipulative Vee is. Played by Lorraine Toussaint impeccably, Vee has shown that she can put on the waterworks and twist people. Her evident history with Red and the way she has already started using Crazy Eyes. On the other side of building up power, she is making shady deals, leaving those she is playing against feeling as they are in charge. It brings an interesting new development to the show. The power plays in the prison are being shifted and it is tantalising to watch.
As much as we saw it waning from episode one, you can finally see that Piper is no longer the focus on television series and audiences are beyond caring. Even the characters on the show are sick of her pseudo whining and look at me attitude. The elective to showcase more of the rambunctious collection of criminals and focus on the moral implications of the leading women is a crucial turning point for the series. It is less about Pipers struggles and more about everyone’s struggles. And on a final note, as we carry on, Healy is a dislikable character that encourages the pang of second hand embarrassment that you cannot help but feel sorry for him.
It is literally a show with enticing characters. And then Vee. Let’s see how much she upsets the rooster.
