Hands up who watched the entirety of Orange Is The New Black over the weekend and are feeling a little lost now? Ok, so some of you bound in cuffs and furnished with bright colours may not exactly be able to raise your hand so nod your head furtively. Ok. So only a handful of you are pacing yourselves while the rest have gone all crazy eyes because they have binged on its goodness and are never recovering, ever. Never mind, let’s keep the spirit alive as we take you through the entire Orange Is The New Black Season Two week by week. And yes, it gets even better.
Orange Is The New Black is one of the few shows where it is impossible to pin down a favourite character because they are all so full of depth. When you finally have settled on one, you uncover another full of richness. There is one character, however, that everyone warms to and loves unbiasedly and that is Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren. Today we get a glimpse at her back story, and it is stunning. While not as tragic as one may think, it toys with the morality of parenting. Warren’s adoptive family are over-protective, causing Suzanne to be damaged more so when her mental illness comes rocking around. This is a pivotal moment for Warren. Instead of nurturing her and adapting their parenting skill to her clear troubles, Warren is pushed to succeed which pushes against her mentality. It’s unnerving plot point which offers a lot more exploration and certainly explains why she adheres so much to certain women. With Uzo Aduba portraying her beautifully, Warren is one of the best characters on the show.
Orange Is The New Black is a crucial Netflix show that allows characters to explore plot threads unstereotypically and it is delicious to watch.
