And once again, ONCE was fantastic. This week delved into Emma’s past and the possibility that her memories of the Snow Queen (mark one) had been erased; we also learnt a little more about the Snow Queen’s plan. However, even more questions have been raised meaning we will be waiting with just as much excitement as last week - the sign of a fantastic show.
The Snow Queen’s plan has not been fully revealed, but at present it does not involve the kidnapping of Mary Margaret and David’s baby – a pleasant change from the previous two major curses… It does appear to feature a mirror, taking themes from the original Snow Queen fairytale. Will there be a Kay or Gerda figure?
ONCE style flashbacks took us deeper into Emma’s past; we see her in a grocery store attempting to smuggle pop tarts under her jacket. Luckily for her Lily, a runaway, saves the day with her ‘stolen’ credit card. It appears to be the first time Emma has let herself rely on anyone outside of the care environment, which makes it all the more heartbreaking when it turns out Lily has run away from her family, and is being chased by her father trying to get her to come home.
So question time: how has the Snow Queen avoided detection all this time? How is it possible that she was in the real world outside of cursed Storybrooke and had contact with Emma? Why can’t Emma, or Elsa, remember her? What is her plan? And why does she need her mirror?
And a major question that has not been addressed at all yet: the Knave of Hearts/Will Scarlet (Michael Socha). Why? What? How? After ONCE Wonderland was so cruelly taken from us, hopefully we will learn more next week about his story and why on earth he would leave a place with bread-and-butterflies…
