We are well underway with Season Three of the cut throat world that is Netflix’s House of Cards. This episode still stays in the oh so familiar format of its previous chapters, yet somehow we find ourselves yearning for more.
We are well underway with Season Three of the cut throat world that is Netflix’s House of Cards. This episode still stays in the oh so familiar format of its previous chapters, yet somehow we find ourselves yearning for more.
The one thing that stays consistent is how truly outstanding Kevin Spacey is as Frank Underwood. It’s no doubt that his performance is possibly the sole reason that people keep watching. After being knocked way out of his comfort zone of late, it seems the current president is back on form. Despite Heather Dunbarr’s campaign shaping up to be successful, all worry has seemed to have been replaced with the long line of American’s queueing up taking advantage of America Work’s promise to give everyone a job who signs up. Whilst Frank is feeling free, Claire becomes backed into a shady corner. A dark corner nonetheless but the first lady always seems to wangle herself out of such places in the ambassadors name. A great scene nevertheless, although it does seem that the UN subplot is becoming rather repetitive. A necessary evil of the position she and her husband have placed her in.
It seems even though these people are insanely busy they still have time for certain life pleasures. Time for chit chat about relationships, sex and in Frank's case most importantly video games. However, there is always an ulterior motive – isn’t there? As usual most of what these characters do is to achieve something that will benefit them. Everyone’s emotions are running high leading to Remy’s jealously surfacing after he sees the rather large rock on Jackie’s finger. Meanwhile Doug becomes a tricky catch, but a vital one it seems for Heather’s campaign to truly hit the ground running. Nitty, gritty politics still remain at the heart of this drama, yet how corrupt and in some cases vile the people are drives this plotline. The writers expertly bounce secrets off of every character creating a gigantic spider web of lies that seem to be untangling one minute and expanding the next.
Even though this isn’t anything we haven’t seen before, Chapter 31 catches your attention. If the race wasn’t on before, it’s well and truly on now. It’s only a matter of time before the battle between Underwood and Dunbarr, with Doug manipulating her campaign in order to make one last dig at the Underwoods. Let’s see if Claire will move back into her husband’s bed shall we? After all how can this couple gain everything they ever wanted if they aren’t fully united?
