In 2011, America were treated to a new Drama from Showtime, one that the UK would not have the pleasure of watching until February 2012: Homeland. The story of Bi-Polar suffering CIA Agent’s mission to prove that a war hero found alive after eight years has been turned against the USA. I’m telling you, NO ONE could’ve predicted how successful this would become; I remember first seeing the advert on Channel 4. I didn’t think it looked like anything interesting. I just watched it cause I had nothing better to do. But I really enjoyed it and stuck with it. And from that great opener to that nail biting finale, I soon realised that I was absolutely hooked. The show struck gold at the Emmys, winning Best Drama Series whilst Claire Danes and Damian Lewis picked up some well deserved acting awards. Season 2 came on later in the year (How lucky were we?) and was once again brilliant. Sure, it ended up being a bit more like 24 and at times, was a bit unrealistic, but was certainly never boring. If you ask me, episode 5 of that series “Q&A” is one of the best hours of TV ever. And now we’re back for another explosive series (Haha, see what I did there? Cause....Like....Suicide vest....And...Never mind). If you’re reading this review, then no doubt you’ve seen the first two series and know what’s going on, cause that’s just WAY too much to explain, but let’s take a look at last night’s episode!
Finding out the truth has not been easy for the Brody Bunch; following a suicide attempt, his daughter Dana (Morgan Saylor) has been released from a one month stay at a hospital. Jess (Morena Baccarin) picks her up, and has to hide her from the paparazzi. Returning home, she is greeted by her Grandmother and her brother Chris (The most pointless character since T-Dog in The Walking Dead) and goes to her room, where she sends a nude picture to a boy she met in group. Dinner that night soon becomes awkward as Jess talks of her plans to get a job whilst her mother suggests suing the government for dropping her military wife’s benefits. Dana tells a joke to lighten the mood, but is soon left distraught herself as she overhears them talking. Her grandmother suggests that Dana is merely crying for attention, and if she really wanted to kiss herself, she would’ve done it.
Carrie has developed a drinking problem; purchasing Tequila at a convenience store, and having sex with someone she met there. Waking up the next morning, her father tells her of a newspaper article stating that an unnamed CIA agent was in a sexual relationship with Congressman Brody. Lashing out at Saul, who is at dinner with his team, she is removed from the restaurant. Saul immediately accuses his colleague Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), but he claims he didn’t do it. On live television, Saul is called before the committee to comment on the report. He reveals the agent in question concealed her Bi-Polar for up to ten years, and concealed her relationship with Brody.
I’m so glad to say this show is back; I really do love it to pieces and it’s one of my favourites, and hopefully this season will be just as good as it’s predecessors.
