What I am about to say is very shocking, and might be hard to hear. But don’t be alarmed, just try to stay calm and just know that everything is going to be okay. It’s gonna sound weird but it’s for the best...

Homeland was decent this week.

And whilst we wait for the ambulance to come to help you with the heart attack you just had, let’s talk about the episode. What makes this week so decent is the fact that things are finally happening. After four weeks of very little, things are heating up. Last week we were introduced to Dennis Boyd (Mark Moses, better known to Mad Men fans as Duck Phillips), the husband of Ambassador Martha Boyd who gave information that belonged to Martha to Sandy Bachman, and is being blackmailed into staying in Islamabad. Dennis is an interesting character; Much like Duck Phillips, he’s an alcoholic, and he’s a desperate man. As of this episode he’s also a spy, using a key given to him by Tasneem (The woman blackmailing him) to get into Carrie’s apartment and take pictures of her and her medicine. What is Boyd gonna do with this information? Is Carrie at risk? See, these are the questions we should be asking every week, not “Is Homeland gonna get any better? ”

Although saying that, this episode wasn’t without its issues, namely the Carrie/Aayan relationship. They’ve had sex, and Carrie has interviewed him, and they seem to like each other. It should be a good plot point but it’s just so damn creepy, and really uncomfortable to watch. But what's good is Carrie going back to her old roots of being unreliable. Quinn and Fara were on the tail of a cleric who had been seen with Haissam Haqqani. A simple drone would have been able to help them out, but Carrie was too busy to answer her phone. At last, the imperfections of Carrie Mathison are shining through again, making her much more interesting than she has been this season. But it’s not just the cleric they lost....

Saul’s story got far more interesting this week, and it would appear he’s in deep trouble. Encountering Farhad Ghazi, the man behind the mob attack that killed Sandy, at the airport, he is drugged and knocked out, and tied up in the trunk of the cleric’s car. Something different for Saul, whose storylines are usually reserved and hands off, but now he’s been thrown straight into the danger. This would be a good time to bring up this question: How much longer does Saul have? As we’ve noticed the past few weeks, he’s becoming less and less of a wise mentor and just not the character we all fell in love with. Is Saul on his way out? Do the writers have the guts to kill him? Considering the end of Season Three, they must do. But Saul’s death may be too much of a blow, and unlike Brody’s, probably wouldn’t help the story.

Rupert Friend is getting so much better every week; he’s really getting used to this lead role position and he’s starting to make it his own. Maybe something Emmy worthy coming up? Let’s hope so, because he is a fine actor, who should’ve been awarded for his guest efforts in Season Two.

So overall, it was the first decent episode of Season four, let’s hope it’s not the last.
