We’re still a while off the premiere of brand new prequel show Gotham, but lucky viewers got to see the pilot episode at an exclusive screening with the cast and crew. So, what do we know about Gotham following this screening?
We’re still a while off the premiere of brand new prequel show Gotham, but lucky viewers got to see the pilot episode at an exclusive screening with the cast and crew. So, what do we know about Gotham following this screening?
First off, it seems Mr. Alfred Pennyworth is shrugging off the wise old butler character. He’s been described as more of a “Cockney thug in a butler’s suit”. It’s an interesting take on the character, most likely based on the version from recent comic Batman: Earth One. Most people are accustomed to seeing Alfred as old and wise, playing a father figure to Bruce Wayne and also being his best friend. But from the sounds of it, fans should look forward to Sean Pertwee’s (Son of Doctor Who star Jon) portrayal of Wayne’s loyal butler.
This Earth One inspired Alfred isn’t the only connection the comics, as Geoff Johns, DC comics writer and Chief Creative Officer at DC Entertainment has had a large hand in the making of the show, offering tips and advice to the cast and crew. In addition, it’s possible that the series may take influence from the Batman storyline “Zero Year”, which saw The Riddler isolate Gotham City from the rest of the world until someone could beat him in a riddle contest, as part of Edward Nygma/The Riddler’s storyline. Finally, two characters from “Gotham Central”, Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen, will be making appearances.

Apparently the pilot gives a big introduction to Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, who reportedly plays the role perfectly. But speaking of villains, there’s one villain everybody is wondering about......The Joker. Will Batman’s greatest foe make an appearance in this program? Well, it seems that in each episode, different clues and hints will be dropped identifying certain people as The Joker, but it may never be for sure who he is or if he is even in it.
It’s still another two months until Gotham hits our screens, but reactions to the pilot have been fantastic. Here’s hoping for the best!
