Galavant started with a bang last week with its debut episodes. It was funny, charming and cheesy. Out of the eight episodes, four have now aired. We are now officially half way through the series, but were the latest two episodes as gripping as the first two? Or did the show start well and is now veering off?

We are now officially half way through the series, but were the latest two episodes as gripping as the first two? Or did the show start well and is now veering off?
Welcome to Sidneyland! That will tell you a lot about episode three: Two Balls. It is mostly centred on Galavant’s squire, Sid, and his hometown. The Disney influence of the songs is made crystal clear as Oy What a Knight sounded extraordinarily like a mixture of songs from Beauty and the Beast and Tangled. It was catchy and told a story. When three writers who worked together on Tangled are reunited, the reminiscent music is no surprise. This song in particular was a lot of fun as it was jolly, had the entire town joining along in on the dance, and had Isabella playing a role to pull the wool over people’s eyes while Galavant sulked in the corner and refused to join in, much like Flynn Rider in Tangled. Episode four’s best song was definitely Togetherness, as the team start to wind each other up and are struggling to co-operate on their journey. There are some amusing scenes in a montage which shows some of the struggles they face as they are at each other’s throats all the time.
Galavant’s character has become rather sassy and surly as he attempts to return to a sober life without Madalena. The King seems to be a bigger focal point as his scenes are wacky and draws a lot of attention to his character over any one else's. He’s oblivious to the things he does and sometimes shows a modicum of regret at times before swiftly turning his gaze on to lighter matters, such as giggling like a school child while people kick the Eunuch between the legs, though his darker side is shown briefly…

The show is still portraying its social themes, much like in the same way as a Disney show would. Each episode has a central theme that they like to base the songs and story around. This week, it was about how people treat those below them, and about comradeship. This is done through the use of knights and their squires, with a hilarious song called Jackass in a Can, and Togetherness, as well as with the Land Pirates problems, who are led by none other than Hugh Bonneville himself!
The names of the songs and episodes are creative and link well to what is happening in the story. Everything about the show is fun and cheesy, and you’ll get addicted! The story is fast paced and will have you laughing and singing along with the characters. The first two episodes were stronger than these latest two, with a lot of setting the scene and immersing the viewer in to the world, but it was still a good piece of quality television. The show is utterly ridiculous; but you will love every second of it and time will fly by.
