The Family Guy episode that aired Sunday 15th December has given its viewers an early Christmas present. In the episode, the Griffins want to go to the Christmas Carnival that is held in their local mall every year, only to find out that Lois’ father has banned it. After some odd attempts by Peter to make him love Christmas, he decides to let the Carnival happen. Thank you Peter; I know you did this for Stewie but the viewers benefited from this also.

At the Carnival, Stewie and Vinnie go looking at toys for Stewie when Stewie sees a family figure walking through the shop. It is past Stewie, who came forward in time to buy a toy as it was released. With help from Vinnie, Stewie manages to steal the time machine control and return to that fateful day in November when his best friend was mercilessly murdered.
He arrives just in time to save Brian. There’s a lovely, heartfelt speech from Stewie to Brian about how a part of himself died with Brian that day and how he had to come back for him. Stewie disappears as his timeline no longer exists and the present Stewie kicks Brian somewhere very painful and leaves him writhing on the floor in agony. Charming.

So, that’s it! Brian is back. This does mean that the family never met Vinnie though. He was starting to grow on me and I’m sad to see him go but not as devastated as I was when Brian died. Thankfully, this was just a short story arc and Brian is now back with us! Brian, remembering what was said and done on that fateful day, gave Stewie a picture of them both for Christmas which was a cute way to end the episode since we now know that Brian is aware of Stewie’s attachment to him.
I’ve got to say, that was an intense story arc. I can only assume Family Guy had lost viewers to pull a stunt like that but if they never do that to us again, I would be deeply grateful!
