It's finally here! The news Doctor Who fans all around the globe have been waiting for! The BBC have announced that the 75-minute special episode; The Day of The Doctor (which will also be Matt Smith's penultimate episode playing the ancient timelord) will not be the only Doctor Who related program on the horizon.

The Day of The Doctor is set to star Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, David Tennant and Billie Piper as The Eleventh Doctor, Clara, The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler respectably and will finally unravel the mystery behind the shocking season seven finale and the reveal of a previously unknown incarnation of our favourite Doctor, played by John Hurt.

Sharp eyed viewers will notice that the Bad Wolf could once again be rearing its head. This can only spell trouble for our favourite Doctors...

As if having David Tennant back wasn't enough, fans will be treated to a true cornucopia of treats to gorge over. For those of you who missed out the first time, BBC Four will be showing a re-run of the first four episodes of Doctor Who. William Hartnell is back on the screens in a newly restored format, never broadcast before in the UK.

Staying with William Hartnell, a one-off docudrama, An Adventure in Space and Time, starring David Bradley, tells the true story behind the inception and birth of a global cultural phenomenon.

Watch David Bradley (right) step into the shoes of William Hartnell, the man who became The Doctor.

"Hope you all enjoy. There's lots more coming your way."

For the academics among you, BBC Two will be featuring a lecture by Professor Brian Cox about the science behind the show.

As well as this BBC Two's top arts programme The Culture Show will be presenting a one-off show alongside lifelong Doctor Who fan Matthew Sweet; You and Doctor Who and will explore the cultural significance of Doctor Who.

Anyone who isn't familiar with the world of Doctor Who (What are you doing here?) can pick up Doctor Who; The Ultimate Guide to help them understand their favourite time lord.

Children's channel CBBC is also getting in on the action. Keep your eyes peeled for 12 Again, a show which will bring together former Doctor Who stars; Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy, Tommy Knight (Luke Smith), Warwick Davis (Porridge) and Louise Jameson (Fourth Doctor companion Leela) among them, will share their fond memories of working with Doctor Who.

Viewers aged six and fourteen have the opportunity to design a new gadget to appear on the series with Blue Peter. The Doctor Himself, Matt Smith, will also be dropping onto the Blue Peter sofa to answer questions from viewers.

BBC Three audiences will be encouraged to get involved and vote in Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend.

It's not just TV that's getting in on the action, BBC Radio 2 will air a 90-minute documentary asking "Who is The Doctor?" and will feature newly-recorded material and previously unheard archive material to delve into the mind of the universe's best time-traveller.

So, whether you're interested in the development of the show, the character, the history or are simply a die hard fan, you're definitely in for a real treat. The 50th Anniversary is set to be a real event that fans will be talking about for years to come!

We'll be covering all of the above events, plus some of our own, so keep your eyes peeled! From all at I'm With Geek - here's to another 50 years of Doctor Who!
