There’s not a word in the dictionary that can describe my love for Breaking Bad, and there’s also no word to aptly describe my grief at the fact it’s coming to an end. Since this is the first time Breaking Bad has ever been covered on I’m With Geek, so let me bring you up to speed:
Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is a Chemistry teacher who, diagnosed with cancer, reluctantly enters the drug business, partnering with former student and addict Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) to ensure the financial future of his wife Skyler (Anna Gunn), son Walter Jr. (RJ Mitte) and unborn daughter is secure by producing Crystal Meth which, due to Walt’s knowledge of Chemistry, is the best on the market.
He then heads to the desert, meeting with Saul and Jesse. Walter suggests to Jesse that he starts a new life; Goodman knows somebody who will put him in a new place, with a new name and a fresh start. However, Jesse lashes out; Walt doesn’t care what happens to him, he just wants him gone. Walt says nothing, but merely embraces Jesse as he begins to cry.
Just not the kind he’d want; Walter explains that Hank is the mastermind behind everything, explaining that he paid for Hank’s hospital bills after his attack, created a bomb to kill Hector Salamanca and Gus Fring etc. This puts Hank off doing anything in the fear someone else will see it. He is, however, outraged to discover Walt’s drug money paid for his treatment and lashes out at Marie - who at the time thought it was gambling money; the story Walter and Skyler used to explain the money and Walt’s unusual behaviour.
At Goodman’s office, Saul makes a call to a friend to get Jesse out of town. Jesse waits at the drop off point, but soon realises he’s missing a cigarette;
As usual, no disappointment, never dull and satisfying to the very end. Top notch acting from all of the cast here, especially Dean Norris and Aaron Paul, who are bound to end up with Emmy nominations for this episode next year (Unless they can outdo themselves in the new few episodes). The story is heating up more and more every week and having seen the cold openings, with Walt, full hair and beard, visiting his abandoned house, there really is no way of predicting what is going to happen next.
The ending was immense. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so tense! Walt’s got a gun, and Jesse is going berserk. I am genuinely nervous how this will play out next week; is Jesse going to lose his life at the hands of Walt? Or will Jesse burn the house down, leading to its abandonment in the future? My mind is spinning at thought of even trying to guess.
Only five episodes remain.
