It may seem like an unassuming Wednesday morning as we get over the bulk that Easter has left us. You may even flick on your television for some morning programmes before you head over to work. But let’s take a moment to celebrate everything that is on our “Googlebox” because luckily, the BAFTA Television Awards have been released. From Sherlock to The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, Glue to Marvellous, all the golden shows that have graces our tiny little screens and beamed goodness to our living rooms have been gifted with a coveted award.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, guys and dolls, the classiest show on TV is back! Yes, Mad Men has returned to our screens with the second half of its seventh season – HOORAY! Although, it is of course the last ever season of the show – BOO! Oh, well, there’s no point in sitting around crying about it. Let’s just enjoy what we have left and hope that the show ends on an excellent finale (unlike SOME shows that have already ended this year....*cough* Two and a Half Men *cough*). So, what’s new in New York?

It’s that time of the year where Christian societies celebrate a man who died and came back to life so that we could all eat chocolate. And teach us about love and peace and stuff. But how does this relate in a geeky context? Well, what about those TV characters who died and came back to teach us a lesson about the fact that beloved characters never die? While a lot of TV shows are guilty of using the Back From The Dead trope, it’s Doctor Who which has turned it into an artform.

Over the last few chapters it’s been Frank who has been unsure of his position; his presidential status. Yet here we are with what appears to be an entirely different First Lady, a very emotional and impulsive one. This is by far the most engaging episode of Season Three yet, as we see Claire and Frank travel to Russia in the hope of negotiating peace. As usual nothing is a walk in the park when it comes to politics and the treaty that they had taken months to set in stone is completely and utterly obliterated by Claire’s sudden apparent feelings.

We’re now firmly back into the Mark of Cain territory as the remaining episodes of the season run down and a lot ended up happening in Supernatural this week, which made for a nice change of pace after the previous monster-of-the-week stories. Now, Castiel’s back, Bobby puts in an appearance, Crowley kicks his mom out, and Sam actually stops standing around and does stuff. Honestly, it was about time.

With every television show that dares transport its characters inexplicably into the past, there are always going to be comparisons to Game of Thrones. Especially when it’s the biggest television show at the moment, soaring back to our screens on Monday. You take mystery and mystical elements, then film it on the murky shores of Scotland and, bam, you’ll immediately think of the romping good show. Outlander seems to have ensnared a different element to it that feels somewhat departed from the aforementioned series despite the fact that it just can’t help showing some blood and boobs - a staple of shows filmed way back in the past.

Tatiana Maslany has been highly praised for her impressive performance on Orphan Black as she mercurially and easily slips between characters. It’s (very, very) early days for iZombie, but it’s easy to see how the show could give Rose McIver a similar showcase in her acting range. Each new brain brings along brand new characteristics for Liv to tackle, essentially presenting us with a new Liv at least once a week.

After last week’s comparatively weak episode, Community has found its feet once again, with a fantastically absurd set of stories that bring the wackiness back to the show. The jokes fly thick and fast as yet more catastrophes flock to Greendale like a student with no other option in their education. |
