Last week’s episode left everyone speechless and rather angry, not at the unveiling of the clairvoyant’s identity, but that Ward is on the side of the clairvoyant and therefore HYDRA.
Last week’s episode left everyone speechless and rather angry, not at the unveiling of the clairvoyant’s identity, but that Ward is on the side of the clairvoyant and therefore HYDRA.
We start back at the hub, where an incoming message from Colonel Talbot, informing them that a military team is en-route, causes Coulson and the team to scarper back to the bus, with Triplett in tow, to avoid being captured. Meanwhile Ward frees Reina from her confinements before he and Garrett break into the Fridge, freeing many of the villains contained there, as well as weapons such as the Berserker Staff. Whilst Skye wipes all traces of the team from the internet and collects all of their “worthless” badges, hidden coordinates are revealed on Coulson’s badge, which leads them to the Canadian wilderness and a secret “non-existent” Shield base with only one inhabitant: Agent Eric Koenig, who later reveals to Coulson alone that Fury is still alive. Reina tries to access the files from the hard-drive with all of the Bus’ data, however Skye encrypted it with a password only she knows, and so Ward is sent by Garrett to “seduce” her, whilst he invites Quinn back and presents him with the gravitation they acquired from the Fridge.
Away from the plot description, let’s congratulate the SHIELD makers for giving us a plot twist that no one saw coming. Brett Dalton did a very good job to lull us under false pretences and to be able to portray Ward in both of his good and evil characters. However the acting is one of the only positives about this episode. The plot, compared to last week, is far less gripping and so gives you the chance to lose concentration. The special effects also were not that high quality, the “hidden doorway in the rock face” is a cliché done too many times before and we see the whole team doubt Coulson, in a time that trust in those closest to you is all that they really have in this situation, making it all a bit sad and does nothing to raise your hopes that in future episodes they may just make it out of this mess.
Garrett is trying to find the correct antidote used on both Coulson and Skye, the team are stuck in a non-existant facility, highly dangerous criminals are out of the Fridge and the team are being chased by an annoyed army Colonel. It feels like they are building up to something, but compared to all of the action, mayhem and class of last week’s episode, it’s hard to not be disappointed this week.
