Before we get started you can check out the first part of this article right here. Last time I made a case in three games (Assassin's Creed III, BioShock Infinite and Final Fantasy X) each contained complex storylines featuring antagonists who, arguably, was actually ultimately doing the right thing, despite however ruthless or relentless they were acting to do it. This time we will be giving focus to three more games with similar character designs, from right across the console generations. It goes without saying really, but in any case - SPOILERS AHOY!

Never Alone, one of this month's "free" offerings for PS Plus members has been praised by critics since its initial release. The game tells the story of Alaskan indigenous culture through the gaming medium. I can confirm that all of this praise is very well deserved; in fact, it's refreshing to see a game which is influenced by such an ancient culture and handles the story with the attention and respect it needs.

On Sunday evening the next game in the Call Of Duty franchise was revealed. Titled Black Ops 3, the game will feature a new campaign which will include a new co-op mode, not seen since World At War. As part of this campaign, you'll also be able to customise the main protagonist's appearance and select a gender which should finally allow the franchise to join the Twenty-first Century.

At this stage of Arkham Knight's development it is starting to feel as though Rocksteady and DC are continually teasing us with new images and trailers while tantalizing our senses with every new detail. I mean, there we are, forced to bend to their will while they gently pleasure us with a soft feather before we feel the crack of the whip that snaps us back into realising that the game isn't out yet!... Sorry, that metaphor may have got a little weird there...

The Last of Us is a 2012 survival-action-third person cinematic experience. Aside from that pretty damn long title, when played on the Grounded mode, it’s also one of the hardest triple A titles I’ve ever played (second to Dark Souls but that kind of speaks for itself.) The beauty of The Last of Us however is not down to luck, as it often is in Dark Souls, and nor are your mistakes often derived from clunky movements, or not having the right gear. Instead surviving in The Last of Us is all about knowing the ins and outs; the parts the tutorials leave out. So here we go, the best tips for surviving in The Last of Us. (Some spoilers ahead but come on, this game’s 3 years old)

It's been a week where the gaming community at large has taken over headlines as opposed to developers. You can see below what we mean as we take a look at the stories that have grabbed our attention this week.

Anyone who checks the Steam storefront often enough knows that new indie games are added by the bucketload, and it’s impossible to keep up with what’s good and what’s not. It'd be impossible to advise you on every single release, but with this series I will hopefully be able to pick out a few that are either worth buying or worth forgetting. Everything that I review will be under £5, so if it’s worth buying then you are likely able to actually afford it.

Total War is a franchise that has been around for quite some time now. Each rendition has taken us to a slice of history, in order to fight nations and build empires, using a mix of turn-based resource management and real-time combat. However while the series has taken us to feudal Japan, the Roman Empire and Napoleonic Europe, its latest offering is somewhat more... fantastical.

Released in Europe in 1993, and re-released on the Virtual Console in 2008, for the Mega Drive and developed by Sunsoft, this side-scrolling shooter promises a blast to anybody who decides to play it. The plot is told via cutscenes near the beginning and can be surmised thusly: O-papa, the protagonist’s Father was fatally (not faithfully as the game’s text may have you think) wounded by the Dark Menon force, who threatened to take over the Fantasy Zone, and could yield to no other than, you guessed it, Opa-Opa, the main character. The ending is not quite as dark as Rolo to the Rescue but I am sure the thought was there.

Last Friday the internet went just a little bit crazy as the Star Wars celebration got under full swing. Of course, unless you live under a rock you will know that as part of that even the World was treated to a new trailer for The Force Awakens, but for us gamers out there we were given a second, equally exciting treat in the form of the first true trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront. |
