On Friday the 12th of September, under very specific circumstances, a small portion of Nintendo Club members received a number of download codes for the Super Smash Bros 3DS demo a week before public release. Though I was not personally one of those to receive codes, I was lucky enough to have 'Links' with people who were. By John Philip Jennings After a week or two of speculation and rumours floating around the internet that Microsoft was in talks to buy Mojang, the company behind hit video game Minecraft, we can now put those rumours to rest as it's now been made official. By Ben Mapp This Friday finally sees the western release of the hotly-anticipated Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U, which features the hack n' slash gameplay style of the popular Dynasty Warriors series, mixed in with characters, weapons and settings from the iconic Legend of Zelda franchise. The game has already enjoyed moderate success over in Japan where it released last month, but will it help the Wii U get ready to sell this Christmas? The IWG Games Team As the last generation of gaming moves sluggishly towards its ultimate end and allows the eras of the PlayStation 4, Wii U and Xbox One to truly begin, some of our writers have banded together to provide you their thoughts on some of our most anticipated games across all platforms. Check 'em out! The IWG Games Team Microsoft created some controversial waves last month when they announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be a 'holiday exclusive' for Xbox One when it releases in Christmas 2015. At first the announcement received a mixed reaction, but eventually the company gave in and revealed that the exclusivity of the title was timed (and that the game would eventually see the expected multiple platform release). That puts Microsoft toe-to-toe with Sony once again, only Sony have Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in the wings, which is a complete exclusive (since Sony owns the developer Naughty Dog). So to get ahead, Microsoft certainly need to get some more exclusives. Halo and Gears of War simply won't cut it anymore. By Luke Kirby As the title of this article suggests there will be no spoilers when it comes to my thoughts of Telltale’s Games The Walking Dead Season Two, but before I do say anything and if (for some reason) you’re yet to play or complete the first season go away and do that now because the ending for Season One will be spoiler for you otherwise. By Daniel Lamb ‘Dragon, Dragon! Rock the Dragon! Dragon Ball Z! Dragon, Dragon! Rock the Dragon! Come get me!’ Alright, so lyrically speaking it’s not exactly William Blake, but this was the theme song of a generation. It’s the year 2000, it’s 5:30pm, you’ve just come home from a long day at school learning about Vikings, and now you’re tuned into Cartoon Network. Of course, you are; you don’t want to miss the next exciting episode of Dragon Ball Z! By John Philip Jennings Stargate is a franchise which has a lot of potential for a video game release and I'm not talking about a mobile video game here. That has already it been done several times. I've always thought that video games are so much more suited to be released on home consoles. Going off the history of Stargate video games as a whole it has become clear that the games I really looked forward to are the ones that didn't see the light of day, the titles that are designed for the home console. By Luke Kirby 2013 was a great year for games. So great in fact that it's taken us this long to play through everything and make up our minds as to what were our favourites. I'll take the reins first I think! Fortunately I think I've finally figured out what mine were. although the competition was very high. So without any more ado, here are my top five gaming triumphs from last year. By Anne Marie Beach and Ben Mapp If you play games as much as we do then you know all too well the tactics game developers deploy to make sales. Scantily clad babes in armour aside, there is another way to sell sex to audiences without being too upfront about it. Since the dawn of story driven gaming (or you know, good stories in general) there has always been a hero who falls for a heroine and the two have undeniable sexual tension that have us screaming “Do it already!” |
