If you sit in Inquisition's title screen for a few minutes and listen to Trevor Morris' breath-taking score, you'll know exactly what kind of game you'll be in store for. Beautifully epic, the main titles bring to mind a grand adventure reminiscent of Lord of the Rings - you can easily picture travelling through snowy mountains or gathering your friends to face armies of darkness in one final climatic battle. Inquisition finally allows the Dragon Age franchise to be as epic as it has trying to be.

Inquisition finally allows the Dragon Age franchise to be as epic as it has trying to be. by Cookie N Screen When you are a young gaming ingénue, your love over consoles is split between what you want to play and what our parents buy you. Growing up with a closer older siblings, it is easier for said parents to separate gaming havens into categories and make sure one gets the other. Older sibling will have this in their room, young sibling will have this. And those are the rules that you are bound by until you see a sick game trailer in your local shop and whimper until it has been brought. For me, I was happy enough with my betrothed gaming platform and have been fiercely in love with it ever since. By Ben Mapp Today Ubisoft released the third patch for Assassin's Creed: Unity, the launch of which had been plagued with various graphical issues and gameplay bugs (particularly the PC version). The glitches affected the reviews, leaving Unity to have the most mixed reception of any Assassin's Creed game to date. The average scores also affected the game's sales, and earned Ubisoft a reputation amongst gamers that they were 'becoming the new EA.' By Luke Kirby Ubisoft has been rather busy this month with new releases, first with the latest installments of the Assassin's Creed franchise and now with the successor to critically-acclaimed Far Cry 3, and oh my is it one enjoyable game. By Mahesh Subramaniam Last week, Telltale Games unleashed the trailer for their hotly anticipated new game series from the television show Game of Thrones. Ever since the announcement of the new episodic series, entitled, Iron From Ice, the general story was expected to be about an entirely new set of characters much like their Walking Dead adaptation, which had focused on original characters but had cameos from characters from the comics and TV series. But Telltale has put those rumours to rest, by having Lena Heady's voice narrate the trailer as Queen Cersei, her voice having the unique ability to sound like we're wasting her time but still managing to be alluring. By Paul Robert Scott It's been a real dogfight between Microsoft and Sony over the last year. Both the Xbox One and PS4 were released more or less at the same time, and the ensuing chaos that preceded Christmas 2013 as gamers tried getting their hands on their preferred choice meant that shelves were quickly emptied. However, as the dust has cleared over 2014 it has appeared that the clear winner of this console battle was indeed Sony's entry into the eight generation. Yet as we get closer to Christmas again, it may be that Microsoft are finally beginning to catch up. By William John Nothing beats cascading through your chosen virtual world, weapons at the ready, companions at your side, ready to take on the hoard of whichever AI baddie a game can throw at you. Role Play games act as the perfect counterbalance to the tide of first person shooters; instead of running through the same bleak grey map, being shot by a fucking twelve-year old who proceeds to tell you how he's t-bagging your Mum, you're exploring a beautifully crafted universe with new quests to discover and new secrets to unlock. When it comes to Star Wars and RPG's, everyone's mind drifts back to Knights of the Old Republic, the hugely successful epic we spoke about last week, but y'know what, as great as the first one is, I'm a far greater fan of its ill-treated, often overlooked sequel, The Sith Lords. By Christopher Money POW! SPLAT! THWACK! And so on. Welcome to the world of Lego Batman, a trilogy which prizes Elfman & Burton’s Batman higher than the gravelly-voiced Nolan Batman we’ve come to know and love more recently. This whimsical addition to the Lego games franchise breaks quite a few precedents set by previous games, for better or worse, but overall its sense of humour, self-awareness, and general variety makes up for any shortcomings. Villain of the year is Brainiac, and all the heroes and villains of the DC world have to team up to stop him! By Ben Mapp Since Assassin’s Creed: Unity has been dominating gaming headlines all week, we’ve decided instead to focus on the lesser known of Ubisoft’s latest two releases. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue is exclusive to last-gen systems and serves as a ‘sort-of sequel’ to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, mostly taking place chronologically after the events of that game and some years before the events of Assassin’s Creed III. Rogue therefore sees the return of many features and characters of the series thus far, such as the pirate-turned-Assassin Adéwalé as well as Templar Grand Master Haytham Kenway. By Olivia Grey It is now only five days to go until the UK release of the long-awaited third instalment of the successful Dragon Age saga from game giants Bioware. For years, never mind weeks, fans around the world have been itching to get their hands on any information about this game and, from unveiling companion characters to the new crafting systems for armour and weapons, to the introduction of a variety of mounts and the introduction of the handy Dragon Age Keep feature, Bioware has indeed delivered time after time in order to produce the game that everyone is talking about. |
