By Vanessa Hague I have only currently played The Last of Us a single time (I'm in the process of playing through the remaster on the PS4 however) and whilst everyone tends to focus on Ellie and sings her praises of being a well written and strong female character, Joel is as just as important. The direction that Naughty Dog decided to go with regards to Joel's character is interesting; a single father thrust into a post-apocalyptic world, willing to do whatever it takes in order to survive. Joel is strong, but silent; rarely speaking without purpose or due thought. Not only does this say a lot about his character, but it also allowed Naughty Dog to build some very strong characters around him - Ellie and Tess come quickly to mind. Naughty Dog's fantastic writing helped to shape Joel as a character, but it was an amazingly passionate performance from Troy Baker that really brought Joel to life. It just wasn't up to the standard set by last year’s E3 presentation, although to be fair how can anyone measure up to an E3 with two console release announcements? By IWG Games Team Last generation saw a welcome rise in unique storytelling, enriching gameplay and ultimately some of the most engaging and unforgettable gaming experiences to date. If, like most of us, you still can't afford a next-gen console then why not take a gander at some of last gen's most compelling contributions? We've visited a wide range of genres during our search, and here are our eight final choices. by Ben Mapp Over the last year it has been revealed that game franchises such as Ratchet & Clank, Assassin’s Creed and The Last of Us will be receiving the big screen treatment. With that in mind, we have decided to offer some casting guidance to other big brand developers who may also be considering the transition from game to film. We feel that as lovers on both games and films it is therefore our duty to ensure that future movies based on games should only be done if they are done right. by Reece Merryweather-Brown Games are amazing. They blend lots of different elements from loads of different mediums, taking things from film, music, literature and mixing it all together and adding the special ingredient ‘interactivity’ to really make it special. But a lot of the time, the music in a videogame is often forgotten. So let’s have a little look at what I think is some of the best original scores in modern video gaming. |
