IWG Character Study - Phoenix Wright

9/26/2014

Picture
By Jamie Lambert

The Phoenix Wright games are packed with interesting and unique characters, from the rookie spirit medium Maya Fey to the horribly unlucky MaggeyByrde. Throughout the series, the deepest and most intricate characters might be the titular Phoenix Wright himself, as well as his rival Miles Edgeworth. Through his interactions with other characters and with flashbacks and references to his earlier life, we see how this confident and talented attorney became how we see him now. When we first meet our protagonist, he’s a nervous rookie attorney taking on his first case. Relying heavily on his mentor, he gets through the case and his childhood friend Larry Butz is found not guilty...

Super Smash Bros (3DS) - Demo

9/22/2014

Picture
By Jamie Lambert

On Friday the 12th of September, under very specific circumstances, a small portion of Nintendo Club members received a number of download codes for the Super Smash Bros 3DS demo a week before public release. Though I was not personally one of those to receive codes, I was lucky enough to have 'Links' with people who were.

By Ben Mapp

This Friday finally sees the western release of the hotly-anticipated Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U, which features the hack n' slash gameplay style of the popular Dynasty Warriors series, mixed in with characters, weapons and settings from the iconic Legend of Zelda franchise.

The game has already enjoyed moderate success over in Japan where it released last month, but will it help the Wii U get ready to sell this Christmas?

Nintendo announces new DLC, new franchises and new 3DS

9/1/2014

The folks at Nintendo have been rather busy recently so I thought it would be nice to accumulate all this information into one place so you lovely people don’t have to go anywhere else. To start off we were told recently about a new Pokémon project in the works and we were given Pokken, a cross between Pokémon and Tekken (naturally), however this seems to only be available in Japanese arcades next year. I must admit I felt foolish for getting my hopes up for a home console Pokémon game, oh well I can still dream.

2013 was a great year for games. So great in fact that it's taken us this long to play through everything and make up our minds as to what were our favourites. I'll take the reins first I think!

Fortunately I think I've finally figured out what mine were. although the competition was very high. So without any more ado, here are my top five gaming triumphs from last year.

Overly Sexualised Gaming #3 - Just do it already!

7/14/2014

Picture
By Anne Marie Beach and Ben Mapp

If you play games as much as we do then you know all too well the tactics game developers deploy to make sales. Scantily clad babes in armour aside, there is another way to sell sex to audiences without being too upfront about it. Since the dawn of story driven gaming (or you know, good stories in general) there has always been a hero who falls for a heroine and the two have undeniable sexual tension that have us screaming “Do it already!”

The IWG Games Team

Last week we asked you to narrow down just one of your favourite characters from gaming, and whilst it's certainly not easy to settle on just one character out of a whole managerie, you attempted it anyway! We singled some of the most interesting. Only ten made the cut!

Did yours?

The Reason I Don't Play Games...

6/30/2014

by Cookie N Screen

I am not a massive gamer. I wish I were. There are some stellar games out at the moment that tickle my fancy, including the, so I’ve heard, amazing The Last of Us, the creepy Bioshock and I would like to explore the haunting world of Silent Hill because I don’t like to sleep at night. But alas, I am not a gamer; the buzz to pick up a control never seemed to itch in my thumbs and the more I shy away from the consoles, the more I find it hard to relate to it.

Exploring the Arthouse

6/25/2014

Picture
By Ginny Ratcliffe

Before delving into an incoherent attempt at explaining ‘THE DEFINITION OF ART’ we must first establish what kind of art it is that is being discussed. All games are art. That’s a given. Each one has been graphically designed – conceptualized, storyboarded.

What defines art therefore depends upon perception.
