Game of Thrones: The Sword in the Darkness - Review

The third instalment of Telltale’s adaptation of Game of Thrones crept up on me, I had no idea of its existence until a few days prior to release.

As I stated in my thoughts about the second episode, it primarily felt like it was building up to future events, so I was quite pleased with episode three delivering on some exciting story development and characters placed in absolutely awful situations who you have to make decisions for (always fun) so it was a very engaging episode.

Great Games = Awful Movies

Everyone knows that making a film based on a video game is not easy. Hollywood has proven itself incapable, but with companies like Ubisoft and Insomniac Games now taking the reins with developing their own movie-based studios, who knows what the future could hold? With gaming picking up more steam each and every year, commercially, and with the more popular franchises already leaking out into the cinematic medium (Halo: Nightfall, Dead Rising: Watchtower, etc...), it's getting more and more likely that - one day - the world might actually produce a game-inspired movie worth seeing.

Nessie Natters #3 - Advanced Warfare

I said I was going to do it and I did it. I got Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and do you know what? It's been the most fun I've had gaming in the past few months. I've sat and thought about why I enjoyed it as much as I did and the more I do, the more I come to think certain things about gaming as a whole. Firstly let me point out that I'm not really a big Call of Duty fan. The only game in the series I have personally bought was the first Black Ops (and that was mainly due to the fact that you play zombies as John F Kennedy) and even then, I sold that within a few months of buying it; I can't really recall that I enjoyed the game as a whole experience. But Advanced Warfare was different. Why? Because I hardly took the game seriously.

Steam Indie Roundup - Episode 1

Anyone who checks the Steam storefront often enough knows that new indie games are added by the bucketload, and it’s impossible to keep up with what’s good and what’s not. It'd be impossible to advise you on every single release, but with this series I will hopefully be able to pick out a few that are either worth buying or worth forgetting. Everything that I review will be under £5, so if it’s worth buying then you are likely able to actually afford it.

Why the World Needs Legacy of Kain

Following up on the various fresh leaks regarding Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, Square Enix recently released a new survey to determine the future of their in-house projects. But beneath the pleas for that Final Fantasy VII HD remake (which the company seem to be saving for a rainy day), filling out the survey made me realise that - however improbable it may seem - Legacy of Kain is still potentially on their radar. With fantasy games such as Dragon Age: Inquisition and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor still dominating sales worldwide, and with The Witcher III: Wild Hunt on its way, I was reminded about just how perfect the climate is for a new installment of this long dormant vampire chronicle.

Battlefield Hardline - Review

Despite all of the bluster from fans on both sides, Battlefield and Call of Duty are two very similar franchises. Yes, CoD focusses on up close and personal combat, while Battlefield gives you vehicles and room to use them, but both have fast and frantic FPS action with very similar styles. Personally, I enjoy either of them equally when I feel in the mood for such things, but I was still pretty grateful for the change of scenery when EA announced that their latest Battlefield instalment would be based on good ol’ school ground cops and robbers action. It was a bit of a shame then to find that Battlefield Hardline really doesn't do anything differently.

Following the events from episode one many weeks ago, ha’ve been eager to get back to playing as Hyperion stooge, Rhys and expert con artist, Fiona after experiencing my favourite opening episode of a Telltale game to date.

Yes it’s been a long wait for episode two, too long in fact, but you can bet your ass it was worth it.
