IWG character study - Joel (The Last of Us)

I have only currently played The Last of Us a single time (I'm in the process of playing through the remaster on the PS4 however) and whilst everyone tends to focus on Ellie and sings her praises of being a well written and strong female character, Joel is as just as important. The direction that Naughty Dog decided to go with regards to Joel's character is interesting; a single father thrust into a post-apocalyptic world, willing to do whatever it takes in order to survive. Joel is strong, but silent; rarely speaking without purpose or due thought. Not only does this say a lot about his character, but it also allowed Naughty Dog to build some very strong characters around him - Ellie and Tess come quickly to mind. Naughty Dog's fantastic writing helped to shape Joel as a character, but it was an amazingly passionate performance from Troy Baker that really brought Joel to life.

Remastered! - Returning to the Classics

Recently a number of games have received a bit of an upgrade for the next gen consoles. With remastered editions of Tomb Raider and The Last of Us now available, and looking better than ever, it seems a good time to consider other possible games that ought to be given a little tender loving care.

And so the long journey reaches its end. The final boss is defeated and the gameplay dissolves into a final, rewarding cinematic. But there are some such endings which stand out to us a lot more than others, ensuring that the game in question (whatever it may be) remains on our shelves forever.

Representing LGBTQ in games

The issue of LGBTQ representation in any form of media is an issue that is very close to my heart for a variety of personal reasons and, since I have a passionate love for video games, you could say that LGTBQ representation in gaming is doubly as important for me. Not only is it important to me, it is important to countless other people who consider themselves to fall under the LGTBQ umbrella and take up an active part in gaming.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. Even girls.

Anyone who followed the events of E3 (and its aftermath) will be well aware of the controversy surrounding Ubisoft's decision to not include any playable female assassins in their upcoming installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed: Unity.

Gearbox seem to be ramping things up for their latest installment in the Borderlands franchise, having just released a new trailer only hours ago, "The Pre-Sequel Moon Dance" trailer, hot off the heels of the Handsome Jack Pre-Sequel trailer they released a few weeks back. Things for the Pre-Sequel look very promising if the latest trailer is anything to go by.

We all remember when Watch_Dogs was first showcased to the world at E3 back in 2012 and completely took everyone by surprise.
