Ubisoft has officially announced their new Assassin's Creed title; Assassin's Creed Syndicate. In an industry where Assassin's Creed is quickly becoming the new Call of Duty, wherein there seems to be a new title announced every five minutes, this shouldn't really surprise many people.

So, with a new Tony Hawk game recently announced, now seems like as good a time as any to look back on one of my favourite PlayStation 2 games from back in the day. That being, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3.Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 was released in October 2001 to an overwhelmingly positive critical response and, along with Grand Theft Auto III (must be a three thing), holds the highest Metacritic rating of any PlayStation 2 game ever with an impressive 97/100 score. I have such fond memories of playing the game that I am in no way surprised by this.

With the conclusion of Geralt of Rivia’s story being released in just over a week, it seems necessary to look back at the roots of The Witcher series. The first game, The Witcher, was a completely unique experience. CD Projekt Red had created a world, plot and characters that really set the game apart from other western RPGs. There was no black and white, good and evil decisions to be made, and the whole game world seemed to carry on without you, leaving you behind if you aren’t careful.

The latest superhero epic by Marvel Studios, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, continues to reign supreme at the international box office, ending Phase Two of Kevin Fiege's master plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whilst the sequel has received a much more mixed reception to its predecessor, partly due to its darker storyline as well as some dramatic tug-of-war goings on (at least creatively) between the director and studio behind the scenes, everyone can agree that the new film is a middle film designed for a main purpose, and that is to set up the upcoming Infinity War. Between now and then however, Marvel Entertainment has more secrets up its sleeve in making the absolute most out of this franchise. In case you missed it, the MCU is finally coming to gaming.

The Last of Us is just one of those titles you can keep revisiting again and again, but in case you're just now joining us in the post-apocalyptic world of the game, we're giving out some tips on how to survive longer than your friends during your journey from the militarised zone, through the ruins of old America and to the final, distant lair of the evasive Fireflies. Also, it helps kill time whilst we collectively wait for Naughty Dog to develop either a sequel or a spin-off. Check it out.

With Treyarch having just announced that CoD: Black Ops 3 will be having a customisable protagonist, changeable in both appearance and gender, this has gotten me to thinking: If a game franchise such as Call of Duty can bring in a customisable protagonist, what's stopping other games from following suit? What's the big deal you might ask? Well, you have to look at this way; Call of Duty is often seen as a heavily male dominated game series, the franchise that all the dudebros play and is injected with more testosterone than a Michael Bay movie. And this very franchise has just gone and announced that for the first time in their games, you can play as a female protagonist, so yes, it's a very big deal. If game series like Call of Duty can suddenly ramp up the inclusivity a hundred fold by introducing a customisable protagonist, what's stopping other games from offering the same?

Before we get started you can check out the first part of this article right here. Last time I made a case in three games (Assassin's Creed III, BioShock Infinite and Final Fantasy X) each contained complex storylines featuring antagonists who, arguably, was actually ultimately doing the right thing, despite however ruthless or relentless they were acting to do it. This time we will be giving focus to three more games with similar character designs, from right across the console generations. It goes without saying really, but in any case - SPOILERS AHOY!

Never Alone, one of this month's "free" offerings for PS Plus members has been praised by critics since its initial release. The game tells the story of Alaskan indigenous culture through the gaming medium. I can confirm that all of this praise is very well deserved; in fact, it's refreshing to see a game which is influenced by such an ancient culture and handles the story with the attention and respect it needs.

On Sunday evening the next game in the Call Of Duty franchise was revealed. Titled Black Ops 3, the game will feature a new campaign which will include a new co-op mode, not seen since World At War. As part of this campaign, you'll also be able to customise the main protagonist's appearance and select a gender which should finally allow the franchise to join the Twenty-first Century. |
