The latest superhero epic by Marvel Studios, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, continues to reign supreme at the international box office, ending Phase Two of Kevin Fiege's master plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whilst the sequel has received a much more mixed reception to its predecessor, partly due to its darker storyline as well as some dramatic tug-of-war goings on (at least creatively) between the director and studio behind the scenes, everyone can agree that the new film is a middle film designed for a main purpose, and that is to set up the upcoming Infinity War. Between now and then however, Marvel Entertainment has more secrets up its sleeve in making the absolute most out of this franchise. In case you missed it, the MCU is finally coming to gaming.
According to Marvel Games creative director Bill Roseman the future Marvel games produced (not just the upcoming Telltale title) will strive for authenticity, will feel “sexy” and “exquisite” and will be something Marvel fans can celebrate about.
Executive Producer Mike Jones said before announcing the partnership. “It takes a long time to find the right partner. We have one special we’re excited about.” He also went on to celebrate the quality of Telltale’s narrative, which is in keeping with Marvel’s standards for storytelling.
Telltale had this to say on their blog; “…we're excited to reveal an all-new partnership with the incredible team at Marvel Entertainment. We'll be teaming up on the development of an upcoming Telltale game series project set to premiere in 2017! As always, stay tuned here for the latest news and details on this and all of our upcoming projects as they become available...”
Considering the majority of Telltale’s endeavors feature a comic book art style it a game set in the Marvel universe seems to fit perfectly. Telltale are already rather busy with already existing titles like Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands as well as The Walking Dead Season 3, The Wolf Among Us Season 2 and their new project in the form of Minecraft.
While new endeavors are never a bad thing I can’t help but think of the 3 month gap between Episodes 1 & 2 of Tales from the Borderlands. However 2017 is still a fair bit off into the future so hopefully there will be no issues with regards to other franchises Telltale are working on.
