3/28/2015

Before we take a look at some of the stories in the gaming world this week, apologies are in order! As you (yes you, loyal IWG fan) will have noticed last week there was no weekly roundup, I can only imagine how lost you were with your weekly dosage. Never fear though because we’re still here telling you some of the more eye catching stories of the week, let’s begin shall we?

Broken Age 2: Act Two is Almost Here!

The second and final part, Broken Age Act 2, will be released on the 28th and 29th of April (depending if you live in NA or the EU). Those who already purchased the game or just the first act will receive the second for free which is good news for the lucky individuals who only purchased the first act. There will also be version coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita as well.

While many will be excited honestly Act 1 is somewhat of a hazy memory when trying to think back to it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Gets Surprise DLC

Picture
Earlier this week the first single player DLC Jaws of Hakkon for Dragon Age: Inquisition was released but only on Xbox One and PC… apologies to fellow PlayStation owners. Reason PlayStation owners will have to wait is more than likely down to a deal struck up between EA and Microsoft.

It’s so exclusive that no word is allowed to be mentioned with regards to when the DLC will be released on other platforms.

Half-Life 2 Gets a Makeover

One of the most iconic PC games ever has received a mod which aims to improve on the original 2004 release. Half-Life 2: Update  (aptly named) the mod addresses a number of bugs and behavior fixes. It also adds all-new lighting, shadows, water textures as well as other visual effects making it more pleasing to the eye.

The mod is free but requires a copy of Half-Life 2.

"What Lesson Have You Got Next?"
"...Minecraft."

Excuse the poor joke, but just hear us out. Minecraft one of the most successful, if not the most, titles ever will now be used in schools across Northern Ireland. Every school above primary age will be given free copies of Minecraft for students to use.

This is part of a new project put together by CultureTech and will be funded by the department of Culture, Arts and Leisure. The focus is on the game encouraging creativity and it’s hoped teachers will use the game in different ways to teach various subjects.

PS4 Gets Latest Update

PS4 system software update version 2.50 was released earlier this week which added many new features as well as revising some already in place.

The main features of version 2.50 are as follows:

  • "PSNSM" has been renamed as "PlayStation™Network".
  • The PS4™ system can now keep applications suspended while in rest mode. Set a checkmark in [Keep Application Suspended] under  (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Rest Mode].
  • You can now back up data stored on a PS4™ system to a USB storage device. Select  (Settings) > [System] > [Back Up and Restore].
  • You can now adjust accessibility settings such as zoom and button assignments. Select  (Settings) > [Accessibility].
  • You can now upload video clips to Dailymotion™.
You can read the rest of the revisions here on the PlayStation site.

Zelda Gets Delayed for Wii U

Picture
In keeping with the tradition that has been going on this year another anticipated title has succumbed to the delayed until 2016 curse and now Nintendo has done something similar as series producer Eiji Aonuma has announced Zelda for the Wii U will not be a 2015 release.

Via a video posted on Facebook and YouTube Aonuma said;

"In these last three months, as the team has experienced firsthand the freedom of exploration that hasn't existed in any Zelda game to date, we have discovered several new possibilities for this game… As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas have continued to spring forth, it now feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds even my own expectations.”

“I feel strongly that our focus should be to bring all these ideas to life in a way that will make The Legend of Zelda on Wii U the best game it can possibly be.”

While naturally this is upsetting and the knee jerk reaction is to be somewhat annoyed ideally this means a better end product will be produced when the game is released.

Could Be Worse...

Picture
Zelda's delay is certainly disappointing but at least we got a bit more Dragon Age, which always a good thing... Even if Microsoft claimed exclusivity rights again...

Join us next Sunday for another roundup of the weekly news!
