It's no secret that Ubisoft had a pretty rubbish 2014, and yes - it was all their own fault. Whilst all of their games were commercial successes, which may be enough for certain other high-end publishers (such as EA), Ubisoft have always prided themselves by maintaining a strong and consistent level of high review scores. This all changed with the releases of Watch_Dogs and Assassin's Creed: Unity. As a consequence, the impending quality of all upcoming Ubisoft projects has been called into question.

With a whole new year of gaming now sprawled out ahead of us, Nintendo has been the first to step up and reveal some surprises in their 2015 line up. And boy were we surprised! by Jamie Lambert With the majority of triple-A developers releasing sequel after sequel of copy-pasted lazy drivel, you generally have to go for indie developers for some truly fresh and unique games. One such game is Lethal League, a “Projectile Fighting Game” by Dutch developer Team Reptile. The gameplay is similar to most fighting games in it’s single-screen one on one (or two on two) layout, however what sets it apart is the “Projectile” part of “Projectile Fighting”. by Reece Merryweather-White Many of you have probably played the incredible BioShock series. I myself am unfortunate enough to have only played the most recent instalment in the amazing series, however (as I don’t reside beneath a rock) I am well aware of the story, the love and the impact on the gaming world that come with the name “BioShock.” And rejoice, for the love of this breath-taking virtual artwork is not just shared by us avid gamers, but by many a film-buff and yes, even film maker. by the IWG Games Team PS Plus subscribers rejoice! This month's free game comes in the form of Infamous: First Light, the standalone DLC prequel to Infamous: Second Son, which features the backstory of fellow conduit Abigail 'Fetch' Walker as she explains to Augustine (the antagonist of Second Son) how she came to be locked up in her D.U.P. prison for super-powered people. The gameplay remains true to Second Son with the focus instead entirely turned to use of the Neon powers, as Fetch cannot absorb the powers of her fellow conduits as former protagonist Deslin Rowe could. by Stephen Hyland 2015 is under way, and there are some great games coming up over the next year. We'll be taking a look at each of them as they come but here are the first of a large number that I am personally looking forward to. By Anne Marie Beach As a woman with (questionable) taste I enjoy video games for a multitude of reasons; story, pacing, fluidity of gameplay, characters, eye candy, how easy it is to enjoy a snack while playing, etc. And like any person who play games, male or female, the eye candy is a big part of my continued addiction. Now to be straightforward this list of hotties is based on a multitude of qualifiers and I know there will be considerable disagreements with me on a lot of my choices. By Ben Mapp T'was the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring... Or so we hoped. Unfortunately, a group of hacktivists collectively known as 'Lizard Squad' were in fact stirring whilst all of the gamers were snug in their beds (with visions of console-based presents from Santa dancing in their heads.) This is the story of how Lizard Squad stole Christmas. By Maia Jern Last year saw a wide variety of games released and we never got around to reviewing all of them. The year before however, back in 2013, Square Enix enjoyed a huge success in the launch of their reboot to the Tomb Raider franchise. It was a success they were hoping to repeat the following February with their reboot of Thief, which hadn't seen a new game released in about a decade. Incidentally, the game's plot is set hundreds of years after that of the original series - giving it the chance to begin afresh. By Luke Kirby There's no arguing that the launch of the Wii U could have gone better, but Nintendo have been sitting on a mountain of gold since the early nineties and have suffered console failure before (a certain Virtual Boy springs to mind). Whilst the Wii U has proven itself to be anything but a failure in 2014, Nintendo have already set their sights on its successor, and everyone knows that they have the fortune to do it. I mean let's face it. They have enough cash to purchase a moderately-sized country, and then Sony afterwards, if they so chose to. The lifespan of the Wii U might only be a short one, but that's not going to stop Nintendo's next console from rising from the ashes... |
