People have very different views on the 1990’s. Some remember it with the kind of fondness that you can only get from growing up in a more optimistic age, while others cringe at the very thought of Brit-pop and curtained hair. Personally I prefer to think of the nineties as a ten-year, acid-fuelled rave; where everyone got so drunk they were no longer responsible for their own actions. However for all of the things we’d rather forget or chalk up to the intemperance of a ten-year millennium party, you have to admit that it was a fantastic age for gaming.

By Ben Mapp E3 is reaching its end, but thanks to Ubisoft we have been left with serious hints as to the future of Assassin's Creed. With the series making its next-gen debut this October with Unity, I'm taking the opportunity to take a detailed look back at one of the franchise's most lesser-played titles. Originally unveiled as Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and released exclusively to the PS Vita in 2012, this game is arguably one of the obscurer entries into the series. It features a female Assassin named Aveline who – exerting all of her skills in combat, disguise and infiltration – must expose a conspiracy concerning slaves in her hometown of New Orleans. I mean what makes a games console? The games! Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer walked onto the stage to recognise not only the developers creating games for the Xbox platform, but Xbox's fans and their competitors in the console war, Playstation and Nintendo. By the IWG Games Team Ubisoft have become one of the more revered gaming companies in recent years, having been responsible for such successful franchises as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Rayman. The wonderful Aisha Tyler returned to host their E3 press conference last night, during which a range of upcoming titles were unveiled, each to be released over the course of the next year. By the IWG Games Team E3 season is well underway with the leakage of this year's first new trailer for upcoming tactical espionage sequel, Metal Gear Solid V : The Phantom Pain! Set in 1985, the plot of MGSV deals with the violent aftermath of Ground Zeroes, the game's controversial 'prologue' chapter which was released earlier this year, and stars 24's Kiefer Sutherland as the haunted super soldier, Big Boss. By Luke Kirby Everyone is clear on what a reboot entails. Just take games that are years old and give them a new lease on life through completely refreshing the storyline or adding new elements to the gameplay. Ideally a reboot will aim at keeping fans of the already existing franchise interested in the new iteration, while also attracting a new fan base to get involved in the series. Whether this actually happens though is another story altogether. By Ben Mapp We can all agree that war is a terrible, terrible thing. Yet we pour it into our fiction too as a means of escapism, alongside other popular genres such as adventure, fighting and puzzle games. How do we distract ourselves from the horrors of war? ...Well, by playing war-themed video games of course! By the IWG Games Team Dying Light is an upcoming first-person, story-driven survival game set in a post-apocalyptic setting filled with hordes of the undead. The IWG Games Team Last week we asked you, the readers, to tell us about your most favourite game of all-time. Telltale Games is a studio dedicated to making episodic experiences that are highly-interactive, character-driven stories. The latest such release is the fourth episode of The Wolf Among Us which, unfortunately, was not the best example of their work. I won't go into too much detail to avoid spoilers if you haven't played the first three episodes. Wolf Among Us is a prequel to the comic book series Fables, which uses famous fairy-tale characters as their main characters. |
